DVR Alert: Tuesday March 24th

For those who get Turner Classic Movies this is a DVR alert.

Tuesday March 24th starting at 8pm (check listings to be sure in case you get an Eastern feed on your TV) they are airing a new special.

Chuck Jones: Memories of Childhood

In addition to a special about cartoonist Chuck Jones they are showing some of his best cartoons

Including perhaps the greatest cartoon ever (no offense to Walt)

What's Opera Doc

All evening they will be airing great cartoons along with the cult classic cartoon The Phantom Tollbooth.

Check it out !

Re: DVR Alert: Tuesday March 24th

aw, man. I love those old cartoons. It makes me sad that my 6 yr old won't know the joy of "I shouldve taken that left turn at albuquerque" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8TUwHTfOOU or "I'm rich! I'm wealthy, I'm independant! I'm socially secure!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcCXnXDiKoQ or even recognize Aimster's throw back quote of "I will name him George, and I will hug him, and pet him, and squeeze him." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JlVqfC8-UI

Ah.....memories.

Wasn't sure from the response if it was the correct response (which it was) or if it was a startled confused question. I erred on the side of being helpful.

Good job. Not many are familliar with the subject matter.

Amazon.com: Warner Bros. Cartoons Golden Jubilee 24 Karat Collection - A Salute to Chuck Jones: Chuck Jones: Video

Get it and he can watch ...till he don't move no more.
There's more further down.

Re: DVR Alert: Tuesday March 24th

I have a WB collection on our Netflix list. I realized she was missing out on something when she asked her daddy who Taz was.

Sad, I know.

Ah.....memories.
I use that Albuquerque quote a lot.I use it at work sometimes when I start walking somewhere and then suddenly backtrack. And I use the Daffy "I'm rich!" quotes even when I find a penny on the sidewalk.

Re: DVR Alert: Tuesday March 24th

As tiggerfan said, it is part of an evening's tribute to the greatest at his craft, the legendary animator/director Chuck Jones.

From the Turner Classic Movies website...

Quote:
Upon returning from school one day, a bored San Francisco youth, Milo, finds a huge candy-striped package in his bedroom. Tearing off the wrappings, he uncovers a magic tollbooth, a red car, and a roadmap of the Kingdom of Wisdom. He drives through the tollbooth and discovers himself in a mystical cartoon world.
A combination of live action and animation, like Mary Poppins, only with a lot more animation.

Butch Patrick plays Milo. He was "Eddie" in The Munsters (only with a slightly different hairdo and fashion designer)

I'm looking forward to this. Thanks for the thread, tigger!

PS...I had the honor of being there for "an evening with Chuck Jones" at the Santa Barbara Film Festival several years ago. What a great night!

Sounds like this was around the same time he was starring in the Sid & Marty Krofft show, Lidsville, which is about a kid that while at an amusemtn park, sneaks backstage after a magic show, falls into the magician's hat and winds up in a town populated by giant hats with arms & legs, called Lidsville. Gotta love that trippy psychedelic stuff.
