![]() | Floods, Tornados, Volcano, Mudslides, Blizzards, Fires, and Earthquakes Since I grew up in the Fargo (ND) Moorhead (MN) area, I've had my eyes on my computer the past few days, and keeping up with the soon to be all time record flood for that community. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in that area. Hopefully, those dikes will be high enough, and flood waters will stop rising. It is sad to see that some people are being evacuated from parts of both cities. Wishing the best for everyone waging battle with the river, in the freezing weather, snow and ice. But looking around the rest of the country has had their hands full in the past day, too. Tornados - 28 in southern Mississippi Volcano Eruptions, Mud flows - 100 miles southwest of Anchorage Alaska, near and oil terminal and pipeline Blizzards - Colorado's front range, closing airport Fires - Southern Arizona, with high winds expected tomorrow and of course Scattered Earthquakes in California |

![]() | Re: Floods, Tornados, Volcano, Mudslides, Blizzards, Fires, and Earthquakes Is it just me, or are these natural disasters happening way more often now. When I was a kid I thought they were so rare and now there is something happening all the time. Was I just too young and didn't pay attention or is it happening more frequently?

They probably seem like they are happening more frequently since we now have to the second access to the information. When we were kids the internet wasn't readily available with constant updates, I imagine if it had we would have seen the same numbers. Unless it's Armageddon and if that's the case, I'm going home. LOL

![]() | Re: Floods, Tornados, Volcano, Mudslides, Blizzards, Fires, and Earthquakes And there has been reports of an earthquake swarm near the Salton Sea. There have been over 90 small earthquakes recorded in the last week in this area. This has seismologists worried because this can transfer energy to the San Andreas triggering "the Big One". (7.8+ on the richter scale). The Salton Sea sits right on top of the San Andreas. Damage would be catastrophic in LA and OC, and in the area of the DLR the ground is expected to shift as much as 3 feet. So things will be quite shaky to say the least. Quakes of this size happen on average once every 150 years and So Cal hasn't had one for the last 300 years. So it can happen anytime. The best thing is to be prepared. |

![]() | Re: Floods, Tornados, Volcano, Mudslides, Blizzards, Fires, and Earthquakes Yep, we all need to go out and buy a helicopter to keep in our back yard. When/if the big one ever hits, there will be no other way to get outta Dodge. Heck, with the normal commute or w/e traffic being what it is, a catastrophe like a natural disaster or something worse will bring everything to a stand-still for a loooong time. It will not be pretty... |
