A Walk with Banana Slugs!

The other day my friends and I decided to go on a hike.... a really long hike in my beloved redwoods. For some reason, the banana slugs were out in full force . I guess it's mating season or something. They are so disgusting and slimy looking. I don't know how I ever got my "I kissed a banana slug card," but this is a must do for all who come to Santa Cruz!

Here's a photo of one of the slugs:

And he/she was only a small size one! See:

Some of the prettier things we saw:

The view from the mountain looking down at the Boardwalk. I waved hi to my son who was working that day, but I don't think he saw me! lol

Looking up at the sky through the redwoods.

Stopping for a rest by the river. That's my friend Beth. She;s trainig for a hike in the Grand Canyon at the end of May.

And this is Beth with Trish who just changed her name from Patti so I kept calling her by the wrong name.

And so ends my mini adventure.

Re: A Walk with Banana Slugs!

looks pretty. (except for the slugs. ick)I just saw an article in a magazine about a hiking club that has you hike during the day and then stay in a hut at night. At the hut, they have a staff who cooks dinner and breakfast for you. You get real beds to sleep in too. I am thinking that this is the only way you'd get my to do anything close to camping. Sounds like fun.

Wow. Pretty pictures! Did they have pine scent piped in with Jerry Goldsmith music playing in the background?

I've done that too! Were you near a campground, and next to a steel railroad bridge?

Re: A Walk with Banana Slugs!

Topography wise, Santa Cruz is an amazing place! Gorgeous beach and forrest areas all within close proximity to eachother ..and steep steep cliffs inbetween.

By the mere sound of their name, banana slugs sound like the type of sex-crazed creatures that like to mate. Enjoyed hitting the trails with you vicariously during your report. Keep having fun!
