biker wars

this probarbly hasn't made news over there, but here in Australia there is a HUGE biker gang war going on, with many murders. One of which happened at Sydney's airport teminal when a guy was waiting to check in and a rival biker gang came in and grabbed a metal post (you know those waist high ones they use to make the lines with the tape??) and killed him with it.

Bikie wars: Police concede more attacks likely - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Bikie-related violence has shocked Australia in recent weeks. It has also prompted governments in New South Wales and Queensland to follow South Australia's lead and move to introduce tough laws curtailing bikies' right to association.
ABC News Online takes a look back at some of the major developments since February.

Tuesday February 3, 2009: The front of the Hell's Angels clubhouse in Petersham is blown apart while several shots are also fired at a near-by tattoo parlour on Parramatta Road.
Saturday February 21, 2009: A 33-year-old manis shot in the leg at a motorcycle event in Silverwater in Sydney's west.
Friday February 27, 2009: Three members of the Nomads outlaw bikie gang are shot outside their clubhouse in Marrickville, Sydney. Police accuse Nomad members of withholding information from them about the shooting and said it was likely the offenders were from a rival gang.
Saturday and Sunday March 14 and 15 2009: Alleged Sydney crime boss Abdul Darwiche is fatally gunned down in front of his family in Bass Hill. Police were keeping quiet as to his identity at the time and an investigation task force was established. Detectives investigating the murder play down concerns of retribution over the killing.
Monday March 16, 2009: Funeral held for Abdul Darwiche.
Thursday March 19, 2009: A couple escape injury after a drive-by shooting in Doonside, which is followed close after by a shooting in Prospect, nearby in western Sydney. A woman allegedly associated with the Notorious crime gang is charged by police.
Friday March 20, 2009: Abdul Darwiche's brother, Michael, accused of plotting a revenge murder. Police revealed they were also hunting the younger brother of Ahmad Fahda, who was gunned down five years ago. Mohammed Fahda was linked to the Razzak family, which is involved in a bloody turf war with the rival Lebanese Darwiche family.
Saturday March 21, 2009: Seven homes in Sydney's west are sprayed with bullets in a series of drive-by shootings. Two teenagers were injured in a gun battle during the shooting, which happened in three separate streets in Auburn.
Sunday March 22, 2009: Anthony Zervas, 29, is bludgeoned to death with a metal bollard in the check-in area of Sydney airport's domestic terminal during a 15-minute brawl between the rival Hell's Angels and Comancheros bikie gangs. It later emerges that Zervas waswanted by police over the stabbing of an off-duty policeman.
Monday March 23, 2009: Lucky escape for a family in Sydney's Merrylands, whose house is sprayed with bullets in a drive-by shooting.
Monday March 23, 2009: Plans to more than double the NSW Police Gang Squad are announced and the Australian Federal Police launch a review after the gang attack at Sydney Airport. Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty and his NSW counterpart, Andrew Scipione, say they will look at police numbers at the airport, police response times and the quality of intelligence gathering before the brawl, as well as the cooperation of state and federal officers.
Tuesday March 24, 2008: Richard Roberts, former president of the Western Australia Rebels club,is killed along with Gregory Carrigan in a shooting in the south Canberra suburb of Chisholm. Russel Field is later charged over the murders.
Tuesday March 24, 2009: The Australian Crime Commission tells a parliamentary committee that bikie gangs have infiltrated the nation's ports and security industries. The Federal Opposition urges the Government to crack down on port security.
Tuesday March 24, 2009: Senior member of the Bandidos gang, Mahmoud Dib, is arrested and charged over the series of drive-by shootings in Auburn. It was the second time in eight days he was arrested.
Tuesday March 24, 2009: Prime Minister Kevin Rudd vows a 'zero-tolerance' approach to bikie violence. Mr Rudd was speaking from Washington DC where he was due to meet US President Barack Obama.
Wednesday March 25, 2009: A 39-year-old isshot in the chest and buttocks getting out of his car after arriving home in Beaumont Hills in western Sydney.
Wednesday March 25, 2009: Police say the system of shared responsibility for airport security should be dumped, amid anger over the time it took officers to respond to the fatal bikie brawl at Sydney Airport. The Police Federation says there are not enough police officers guarding the nation's airports, and security is reduced because state and federal governments share responsibility.
Wednesday March 25, 2009: High-ranking Hell's Angel, Derek Wainohu, ia suspended from a senior position at the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority, after claims he was on the same flight as Anthony Kervas before he was killed. There are also claims he may have accessed names and addresses from a database while he was working for the agency.
Wednesday March 25, 2009: Comancheros bikie gang national president Mick Hawi calls for peace talks between rival gangs. He also temporarily bans his members from wearing club colours or riding motorcycles. NSW Premier Nathan Rees said it was too late for peace talks and he was unconvinced it would change anything.
Wednesday March 25, 2009: Tough new laws to crack down on bikies proposed for South Australia. Meanwhile, the ACT says it will not be doing the same, despite the double-murder in Chisholm.

Friday March 27, 2009: Anthony Zervas isfarewelled by Hell's Angels gang members in Lakemba. One of the men accused of seeking revenge for Abdul Darwiche's murder denies the accusations in court.

Monday March 30, 2009: Queensland's Cabinet considers introducing its own tough anti-bikie laws, to be modelled on the South Australian example. The Northern Territory also flags an overhaul of its laws. Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says she is concerned the state could become a safe haven for bikies.

Re: biker wars

Vancouver (and the surroundng area) currently has a big gang war going on linked to the Mexican drug trade. Every couple of days there is an announcement in the news that one or two people are dead. So, for those attending the 2010 Winter Oympics next year, don't forget your Kevlar.

yeah, but these are bikers, not just gang members, like what was around in the 70s. When I see these bikers on TV they remind me of the guys from Wild Hogs

Re: biker wars

Wow. That just sucks. My BF has a motorcycle, but he's not part of any gang. I have a friend who knows the Hell's Angels (he calls them "the brotherhood"). A couple years ago I went to a club to see a U2 tribute band and ended up hanging out with some members of a biker gang called The Black Pistons. They were actually really cool and even invited me to their clubhouse (they said they have a fully stocked bar and have big BBQ cookouts and stuff). I still have the business card one of them gave me. I thought it was kinda cool that these big, bad biker dudes thought I was cool enough to invite me. I never went but it's the thought that counts!

Re: biker wars

You guys are finally getting what we have over here. We usually have a Hells Angels vs Mongols war going on but right now there's a lull. Last big battle they had was a gun fight on the strip in Vegas a few years back.

Re: biker wars

This is horrible but I can't help to laugh at them being referred to as "bikies".

Re: biker wars

Hey, you've graduated! Welcome to the Real World...

It's all organized crime under the guise of a motorcycle club - Drugs, guns, military weapons and explosives, prostitution or human slavery, you name it and they've either done it or tried doing it...

Remember that the motorcycle itself didn't kill anyone, it's the low-life scumbag riding it.

Some of the Toy Runs and public service is an attempt by the good clubs to redeem their names - and pure Public Relations Whitewash for the bad ones. Simply put, the Law Enforcement officials have to crack down on the bad actors, get convictions, and stick them in a nice deep hole with 10 minutes of sun a day for a many years.

The ones who have high level or sensitive jobs in Government or transportation industries that are the most troubling - those are the people who find the holes they need in the Customs or Airport security to import the drugs and guns, and export the cash to pay for it. And to make the beat cops look the other way with a small pile of cash.
