If you know me, you know how hard this is to ask for help.
We just got a call...my friend who called me today, her husband is hubby's best friend. She just called in need of David. Her husband just shot himself. Why??? Why would he kill himself?? Why??? We just talked to him 2 hours ago and things were fine. Why?? they have 3 young kids!!

He must have been really majorly depressed...either in an ongoing "chemical" way or because of something really terrible that happened that he didn't feel he could "Live with"
My family and I are very good friends with a mom and thrree kids who had the exact same thing happen to them. I think the best thing you can do now is just be there to listen whenever they need to talk. You may see some really drastic changes in the kids so be ready to love them unconditionally no matter what they do.
Again , I am so sorry. I will say a prayer for them and you.
One thing I want to add that might make you feel a little better (I hope ) is that the kids I know went through some really bad times but they are doing much better now. It will just take time!

There is absolutely no words that can ease the pain you must be going thru. I will send positive thoughts your way and please feel free to come here and talk, we will be here to support you.
Suicide is something I'm not sure anyone can understand unless you've been down that road. Folks feel there is something in there life that can't be helped, they can't see the people that love them and would help them in a heartbeat. It must be an incredibly painful place to exist in.

Sorry for your loss. This is an area I work closely with, and I need to tell you that everyone involved should look for a suicide survivors support group, and or counseling. In addition, once there has been a suicide in a family, the taboo is broken, and other family members are much more likely to also attempt suicide. Get Help!!! Be proactive, remember, asking someone if they feel like hurting them self, is NOT putting the idea in their head. That was the old way of thinking, and it was entirely stupid.
My condolences on your loss, I hope that you guys can begin the healing process.
I know you've heard it from everyone else, but I'm sorry too. There's nothing harder than hearing bad news, and then not understanding WHY it would happen. We're all wishing the best for you!! Stay strong!
I keep reading and rereading this thread, trying to think of something to say that will ease the pain, but there is really nothing that will accomplish that but time. I will offer my prayers both for you and your family and your friend's family. Getting them to a place that does grief support is very helpful, as the previous poster suggested, is probably more helpful than anything else I can think of. I don't know where you live, but we have a great place where I live called the Centre for Living with Dying. They offer great support for adults and have a kids group too. I've referred many families there and it has helped with time. Just try to take some extra care of yourself and your family. You will need support as you support your friends.
Please take a moment to review this site, it has a bunch of good info and can really help the healing begin. As terrible as it is, you are not alone, this happens every hour, around the clock. I can't state enough how much you guys need professional help. Many employers offer EAP (employee assistance programs) that provide FREE counseling. I reccomend a suicide specialist. On a side note, I think in time you will likely learn that this person was either using illegal substances and/or was depressed/mentally ill. You don't typically find people that just wake up one day and decide it is time to check out. The really bad thing is that survivors often have a great deal of guilt, "Why didn't I see the signs?" "What could I have done" etc. The bottom line is that only one person made this choice, no one else.

You know, the mind is such a fragile and very personal place. Hindsight seems to be the only way an answer can be found, I guess. People do things for reasons that might seem perfectly "correct" and to the outside seen as totally crazy. And asking "Why" would seem to be the question to ask, but certainly unanswerable.
There's no helping him now, unfortunatly. It's time for helping your friend with support and a shoulder.
WOW! I know you've shared about this couple before and the trouble they have had, but I'm so VERY sorry to hear that this was the answer he found. I'm shocked and so VERY sorry.
