Question Camera Question...

I know that people here are amazing at taking pictures and I asked the question recently about what camera's you use. I have *somewhat* decided that if I get a dSLR camera it will be a Nikon. I have priced some Nikons and I was hoping someone could help me understand the difference between the d40, d60, d90, and d5000. If you use one of them or have seen them, what would you suggest? I only take pictures for fun but want something that is better quality than a point and shoot. I am sick of getting blurry shots and know that bigger lenses can help with that. So if anyone has any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks!!!

Re: Camera Question...

I was in the same situation as you about a year ago. I take pictures for fun, but I was getting sick of pictures not turning out very good with my Canon Digital Elph. So I decided to step up to a DSLR.

I bought the Nikon D40 and I love it. I basically use it as a point and shoot and only occasionally do manual focus and play with settings, but the pictures are way better than what I was getting before. Then with the birth of my son, I wanted some good pro looking indoor shots of him so I found that I needed a better flash. So I went with the SB-400. When I use the bounce flash from the SB-400, the pictures look amazing. No more of that dark shadow behind people with bright blown out faces. Just a nice even light.

I got my whole setup for just over $500. With this setup, I love taking pictures again!

As for the difference between the Nikon models, there's a really good information site by Ken Rockwell. I don't think I can post links here, but you can just do an internet search for his name and find his website. You'll be able to find all the information you are looking for on there.
