    Need insulation ideas!

I recently moved into my new bedroom- and it has a window. It's double paned, but older, and one pane is broken. I need to replace it, but have not been able to yet-anyway, it's getting colder here in CO and the chill seeps through the window. I used to have a space heater but my son broke it- *sigh* and again, I have no funds to buy a new one yet.....

Ok, right now I have a curtain hanging in the window, but that provides no insulation- I would buy an insulating shade but that is $$$$ too.....

So, I was wondering, does anyone have an idea that I could do cheap- that looks ok, but would block the cold?

Heavy-duty, but clear, plastic? Duct-tape it to the walls, all the way around. Or a hard piece of plastic, duct-taped onto the interior walls.
That would be good if you still want to see out or let the sun in.

One pane in a window can be replaced. Don't know if it's more than a whole window.

There are sheets of insulating foam available at Home Depot and elsewhere that have good R ratings. We've used them for sealing off rooms that were open to the outdoors during construction last winter and they did help.

I also got the kind you put on and there is a kind of tape included and then you use as blow dryer to shrink it . I wil be using this for my huge bay windows.

    Thanks-

Another idea that my parents have used is a stiff cardboard (or maybe a foam board for more thickness) covered with a fabric batting type of material. Cut to the size of the window-would block cold and the light

Head over to your local Hostess discount bakery and buy several dozen bozes of Twinkies. Make a wall (think bricks) out of them against the window. When they dry out, they will have a higher RF value than most synthetic insulators.

And, you can eat them if you get hungry in the middle of the night (just have a glass of milk handy so you don't crack your teeth).
