Growing up I admired celebrities (bad I know). But the older I get the more I revert back to the "people" I admired when I was little because my 4-6 year old self was onto something. So Big Bird, Mary Poppins, my grandma, Jim Henson, my other set of grandparents.
Sherlock Holmes (fictional, but still a hero )
Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter
Big Bird has all the personalities you'd want as an adult. Smart (ish), loyal, funny, nice, well liked, constantly curious (really good because the need to learn helps fight off Alzheimer's.), and kinda' a neat freak. Plus as a kid he was really tall, which meant he was my first crush.
Marilyn Monroe....for her beauty, her charm and her appeal.
Lucille Ball....for her sense of humor, her courage to be a slap stick comedian at a time when only men were doing it. And how she wasn't afraid to get her hair messed up and look silly. Anything for a laugh. Plus, she was brilliant. She made amazing career moves and business decisions.
A. Lincoln (a gimmie)
My mother (her husband died when she had two small kids in 1975..and raised both my brother and myself without the stereotypical nuclear family)
My older brother (an ex-addict...drugs can kill and destroy--and I saw it up front)
Harvey Milk (long before there was a movie, I wrote a paper about him in college about the ability to participate in the political process)
PT Barnum (I have long believed that entertainment has always reflected those who take it in...and we all do...and this guy was an ace!)
Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet
My brother. This is now his 4th deployment in 3 years (Air Force) and has only been married for less than 2 years and now leaves his 4 1/2 month old son for the first time. He knows he'll have to deploy at least 1 more time next year and it's hard on him and his wife. He doesn't even know if he'll be home for Christmas to celebrate his son's first Christmas with him. Air Force plans change all the time.
Press today is so concerned with cool vs. not cool that they're starting to forget good vs. bad. I'm not sure I'll ever be "cool", but I will always tirelessly strive to be "great". - Josh Groban
