Post Man or Woman? Officials to Test Gender of 800-Meter Runner

I was watching the news last night and found this quite intresting.

A quote from the new report.
The world track and field federation requested the gender test about three weeks ago, after Semenya burst onto the scene by improving her personal bests in the 800 and 1,500 by huge margins.
Here is a link to the full article: Man or Woman? Officials to Test Gender of 800-Meter Runner - KTLA

I think the first 5 letters of her name might be valid to the test!

Man. Every single thing about this person's physical appearance screams man... But, I have seen some pretty manly looking women and vice versa, so we'll just have to see.

Re: Man or Woman? Officials to Test Gender of 800-Meter Runner

i don't know, i think she could easily be a woman. There are plenty of biological women put there who are butch enough to resemble men, especially considering athletic training and even the possible use of steroids and hormones to build muscles.

there's also the issues of transgenders in sex-divided sports. many baby boys with smaller than normal or underdeveloped genitals were "fixed" after they were born and raised to be girls their whole life, in the times before gender was understood in a genetic and psychological sense. Some of them of course felt different, and discovered that they identified as a man, but no doubt some of them identified as and remained women. would these women competing in womens' sport be cheating, even if they had no idea that they were genetically male?

Also, if a women, in their adult life, discovers that they identify as full male, or as ambiguously gender *****, what division of sports do they compete in? I've studied and thought about lots of gender issues in terms of psychology, biology, etc, and understood some of the grey areas, but i've never thought about it in terms of competitive sports before! it has more ramifications than just what bathroom to use.

Also, it would've never occurred to me that someone would have a transgender operation and change not only their body, but their whole identity and lifestyle just to cheat at and win competitions. It seems far too drastic.

This test is NUTS! Well that's my opinion, right now it's inconclusive.

I admit, she looks pretty manly. But I wonder how awful this whole experience must be for her? I mean, she's 18 years old. And the whole world is watching this controversy develop over whether she's really a chick or not. That would freaking shatter me totally and completely. I feel bad for her.

Looks like a man to me. Even doing a google image search to get a better picture. Had i seen that picture with no name to go off of or anything, I'd say male. Should be interesting to see what the test says.

Yahoo! News just posted this article on her/him today:

Embattled track star Caster Semenya gets new coach, new look - Fourth-Place Medal - OLY - Yahoo! Sports

I'm weird on this controversy, but I haven't been keeping up with at all. Did they post results or conduct them yet?

Then they should make shades of gray races!

So you agree with me - the problem is the races and not the racers?
