We have Fitness and Nutrition Gold Club that's been languishing lately. I'd encourage people here to consider joining.

OK, I'm inspired now. I've decided to shoot for a 10-15 pound loss by my 60th birthday, which is 9 weeks from today. I've stopped the snacking (except when actually hungry) a couple days ago. When I start thinking about eating, I ask myself, "Are you hungry or just looking for something to do?" It will take a week or two of vigilance to break the mindless snacking habit, and then it should get easier.

How's it going so far, Barry? Need any words of inspiration?

I need to get started, but I am afraid to step on the scale. It was one year ago almost to the day (9/2) that I collapsed at Burbank airport and was taken to the hospital, where I lost about 40 pounds in a three-week plus period.

Instead of building on that, I've gained it all back and then some.

My NutriSystem shipment has just arrived. It's time to get going.

You were going to watch TV anyways and when you get comfortable you can use weights and it's one helluva workout.

Some friends and I recently decided that we were going to lose some of the extra weight we put on over the last couple of years. I have been using the Wii Fit and it really does work, if you use it regularly. I have been doing the Free Step set at 30 minutes and the day after I first started it my legs were hurting so I knew I got something out of it . I will look into using some weights along with this.

Problem. Gabe is back in California, so I don't have a big retriever that needs a big walk. Instead I have my 15 lb terrier mix that get exhausted by walking around the block. I need a dog that challenges me or that looks at me like "come on fatty! Move!" I'm thinking about getting a pedometer too.

Just got on the scale for the first time in several weeks.

The reading...ugly. 394 pounds. My initial long-range goal is to get below 300, and go from there.

20 pounds more than where I was a year ago, pre-hospital.

I have both the Wii and the Wii-fit. But no idea how to hook them up. Maybe its finally time to take them out of the boxes.

Of course, I see on the outside of the box that Wii-fit supports weights up to 350.

The weights work wonders. Just get a couple of 5 pounds weights and use them in different lifting direction. Once you lose the fat it helps with the toning. Also don't expect to lift them for the entire 30 minutes, that's a tough chore when you start.

Doesn't that suck Barry? You have to lose weight to use a product that will help you lose weight. Where you are at right now Barry, losing 50 pounds should be fairly easy if you curtail food intake and excersize moderately. You'll feel better after the 50 pounds is off and the Wii Fit will serve as something to keep you focused because it weighs you every day. I find that to be very help because I know if I gain 3 or 4 pounds in a couple of days I have to change something. That something could be excersize more or eat less, simple guidelines.

Good luck to all of you.

The weight affects everything, Chad. I haven't even felt like going to a ballgame in person because I don't fit comfortably in the seats. Same for most other public events. Of course the fact that the seats are smaller and the leg room to the row in front reduced in new buildings doesn't help either. (When I went last year I either had a press pass, or bought bleacher seats so I could basically walk around on the patio above the outfield at the Big A.)

That sucks, I looked at the box and it does say up to 330 pounds on it. That will give you some motivation. The funny thing about the Wii Fit is that according to the scale on it I'm not losing any weight but my BMI is going down. I use it for an hour every night and have cut back on soda and drinking more water. I'm hoping to get off soda and just drink water and juices. I was also wondering if those Sketchers shoes work. I want to try them out but $110 is a lot to spend on a pair of shoes. My mom is also starting in on wanting to lose weight so I also go walking around the park with her every day except Sundays when the park gets packed with people.

Barry have you talked to your doctor or healthcare provider? Just because you want to know a.) you can do it and b.) what guidelines he/she will give to you. Just because you really should, just in case.

Yep...She really wants me to look into the lap-band surgery...but I've got issues (some financial) with that.

Barry, you can do this! You will probably find that the first few pounds come off without a lot of severe changes in your life. Getting down to the point where you can use the Wii is a good goal. If you want, hubby and I (and kid, too) would be happy to come up and hook up the Wii for you when you are ready, or even before then. We can arrange some outings if you like as well, if you know any places that are not too difficult for you to do some walking.
Anyway...PM me if you wish, anytime.

Losing weight is free and beats the hell out of going under the knife. More than 50% of the people that get that surgery get heavy again because they never change their lifestyle or eating habits.

Ok I am on Day 7 of using my Wii Fit. I have seen some weight loss, about 3 lbs.

Barry I would definitely SM up on the offer to help set up your Wii. You may not be able to use the Wii-Fit yet, but you can still use the Wii Sports which does not use the balance board. The games are kind of fun and get you standing up and doing something at least. I have been using it when I have needed a break from wii fit.

That's the key MB. Just get off your butt and do something. Heck, walk around the park with a radio and listen to a baseball game. You'll forget you are walking if the team you are rooting for is winning.
