Ok Barry. I know I've been needing to get healthy for a long long time. My joints are telling me that I need to do something. The pictures of me at my daughters wedding are telling me I need to do something. (Cow arms!!!!!) I can't promise I'll actually accomplish anything, but I'm with you Barry. I've been getting a lot more of a work out at the school this year since I'm working with more severely handicapped kids and have one that is a flight risk I have to follow a good part of the day... so maybe that will help push me to keep moving when I get home instead of.... sitting on the computer all afternoon.

Um...

Lets do it Barry!!

I joined the fitness club. I can exercise all I want but it isn't going to help if all I eat is junk food. I have cut out my snacks and now I just have to work on eating healthier when I go out.

Instead of building on that, I've gained it all back and then some.

My NutriSystem shipment has just arrived. It's time to get going.
And we're off! No looking back!

Funny, I was in the ER on 9/2 with intense pain in my left arm caused by a pinched nerve in my neck. Once we got it under control, my doctor (also a cyclist) worked out ways I could keep riding. I still have a constant tingling in my index finger.

I like that idea! It seems suited to you, Barry. Start by walking for 1 or two innings, and work your way up to an entire game.

Eating habits are the toughest to change. I'm still fighting that battle, but it's only been a few days. I allowed myself a couple small snacks today, but I forced myself to wait until I actually felt a little hungry.

One small change can make a big difference over time.

I hear you. Even with all the riding I do, my LDL was too high until I took my doctor's advice and changed my diet--permanently. Get the nutritional guides for the places where you dine and choose accordingly.

I was looking at doing that. Problem is I work odd shifts and I really can't figure out when to exercise. I work nights meaning first thing I want to do when I get off is go eat something (usually bacon) and go to bed... I'm looking at fitness videos. I live really close to work and I could walk (exercise and save the earth!), but problem is I work nights and I'm a girl.

I'm with you all too... after 7 kids, your body just isn't the same!! I want to get back to where I was even 3 kids ago. My husband is a personal trainer/fitness therapist (like I listen to him lol..)
So of course I know what to do, it is just actually doing it, y' know? Life is SO stressful with all the kiddies and money and everything else life throws at you, that I feel like I have been in survival mode the last 7 years or so...
Anyway, I need to get back on track and not waste any more days or years not feeling good about myself...
In the words of Linguini (oddly enough a character from a movie about food) "LET'S DO THIS THING!!"

I should point out that I do not just use the Wii Fit. I work at Safeco Field and I walk from the ferry terminal to the stadium and back each work day. Not sure how far it is.

Is there someone who could walk with you? Co-worker with the same hours willing to park at your place and walk?

Count me in, 50-55 pounds is exactly what I need to lose.

I'm an accountant so I'm going to break this down for us all - approx. 47 weeks from today (if I counted right on the calendar), therefore 1.11 pounds per week. Hey, that doesn't sound so bad does it?

I'm heading out on Wednesday for a mini-vaca, so I'll start back at the gym when I get back on Sept 8th. I also need to head to the grocery store, the family needs to eat more veggies!!

Good luck everyone!

Here's a free site I actually joined some time ago but never did anything with... until now. Maybe now I'll spend some time there looking at recipes and stuff. Its a life style change/weight loss/healthy eating support site. You can earn points by logging in, setting goals, tracking what you eat, tracking your exercise etc to earn virtual trophies.

Would some folks feel more comfortable if we went "Gold" and established a "Club" for this? I've gotten feedback from a couple of folks to this effect. We would have more privacy for folks to share their thoughts than we do here, although that doesn't bother me.

We already have Fitness and Nutrition club where we can talk about dieting and weight loss. The weekly weigh-in thread is still open. There was also a private club of dieters, but I don't know if it exists any more. The ladies there put colored daisies in their signature lines to track their progress.

Barry, I was about to check in on you and see how you've been doing these first few days. Sometimes it's tough just getting started.

I have the food. Haven't started reading the diet plan yet. At least I've been watching what I eat more, and doing more walkingand drinking a lot more water - all things I know are important... I have so many years of failure - at this and other things - that it's been difficult for me to erase those old tapes. Even with the help of therapy.

There's one gal that lives 4 streets above me and works same shifts sometimes. I wonder if she'd be apt to do this.

I'm tempted to go to Target and pick up a fitness DVD or maybe something...I keep thinking of going out and just buying the darn Wii with the Wii fit, but that's a lot of money and I don't like video games.

I remember the old Jack La Lanne TV show that used to be on every morning when I was a kid. More recently, they used to rerun those shows on the ESPN Classic channel - but no longer.

The point is, what did he have on the set with him back in the day as he did all those exercises, and had housewives across America doing them with him?

Nautilus machines? Boflex or the like? Wii fit?

Try...a chair. And sometimes a special elastic band. That was all!

(And a guy off-screen playing really cheesy organ music)...but you get the point.
