Who else loves pomegranates? I've been a lifelong fan, long before it became a "fad".

Re: Juicy pomegranates are back in season!

I love pomegranates. My mom used to always get us 1 a week growing up when they were in season. But than we knew them as Chinese Apples, not pomegranates. When I was home on maternity leave 3 years ago with my son, they were a daily treat for me. They are my favorite fall fruit! Thanks for the link, now I know how to pick them!!

Um... I had no idea you could freeze the seeds! My first pom was way back in the 70's... I didn't know what to do with them, but I fell in love with them then. I think I payed a whole quarter for one. My mother in law has a neighbor who has a tree, so right now I have a bag full on my counter. Now that I know the seeds can be frozen I'll have to see if her neighbor has more!

Uhmm, okay don't get too too jealous.

My great grandfather had a tree right behind his house, in his garden and I used to pick a whole brown bag full - which I stashed in my bedroom closet, and enjoyed by myself at a rate of one a day.

Flash forward to now, no access to the pomegranate tree but I'm a pomaddict, I can consume 4 a week on average now. Our Sunday Farmer's Market is calling.

Oh and if you go to Disney hotels or Cove Bar at DCA, try the pomerita.

Bonus points to the first person who knows the recipe. I think it involves a pomegranate liquer.

I would so grow a tree but by the time its old enough to bear a lot of fruit.. I'll be dead!

Ok these are probably a bit different from what they have at the Cove Bar but...

    Pomerita

    Ingredients
    2 oz. Pomegranate Juice
1 1/2 oz. Hornitos Reposado Tequila
    1/2 oz. Lime Juice
1/2 oz. Simple Syrup or Honey
    Instructions
Add all ingredients to shaker. Shake well. Strain into rocks glass filled with ice or into chilled cocktail glass straight up. Garnish with lime wheel.

    Although this one sounds better.

    Pomerita (Pomegranate Margarita)

    2 ¼ oz tequila
¾ oz Grand Marnier (no substitutes)
    ½ lime, squeezed
    3 oz pomegranate juice
    2 oz raspberry puree*

Combine in cocktail shaker. Strain into margarita or highball glass filled with ice.
*To make raspberry puree, combine 12 oz frozen raspberries and 1 cup sugar in a small saucepan. Heat, stirring frequently, to a slow plop-plop boil. Boil for 2 minutes, until sugar is fully dissolved and raspberries are mushy. Transfer to blender to puree (be careful to vent it). Drain through a fine sieve to remove most of the seeds. You can make this ahead and then freeze it in 2 oz cubes.

I have a pomegranate tree, but we're not that into them, and most of our fruits end up as food for birds.

You realize that if CA and I lived close enough, we'd be out in your tree all the time.

    Darn that sounds weird...

We have a pomegranate, but we just planted it last summer. We got one small fruit, but it was good. My neighbor gave us a bag of them though. I love them,.

I really like pomegranate juice. The actual fruit is messy. But I adore the Persian rice with pomegranate in it. So yum.

I would drive to OC for a bag. Or I can provide a Fed Ex number!
