Calling all U.S. Travelers! - Advice

My honey and I are going to be taking a road trip in June and it got me thinking, with all the people we have on the site, there must be plenty of people who enjoy traveling right?

So here's my request, post your favorite place to visit in the following format:

    State>City>(Insert Attraction Name here)

Then maybe a short sentence or two as to why you like to visit it.

It can be anything, an attraction, an art museum, a hole in the wall restaurant etc.... I want to hear about your favorite places!

    Go!

I really enjoyed road tripping through California, Oregon, and into Washington. And I liked driving through Idaho into Montana. I just liked seeing how diverse our country is. And I like my town so much that I'm living here. It just so happens it's a resort town...

Washington> Anacortes> whole town. Anacortes-Homeport to a San Juan Islands boating vacation

    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

I could post 500 of these. What region(s) will your road trip include?

I'm in the same boat. I've touched all of the 48 continental states and Hawai'i. I need more information. If you can give me a starting point and an ending point, both Pete and myself can really give you some good advice.

Nevada > Reno > The National Automobile Museum (they recently had the original Greased Lightning on display, how cool is that!)

Nevada > Reno > The diner at the Little Nugget on Virginia St. (you haven't visited Reno until you've gone to this greasy spoon and had one of their Awful Awful's. 1/2lb burger with 1/2lb of the best fries i've ever had)

Arizona > The Grand Canyon - The most awe inspiring site in the world is watching the sun rise while standing on one of the lookouts over the canyon.

California > Yosemite National Park - Everything you could ever wish to see in a National park, beautiful views and gorgeous waterfalls.

Utah> Zion National Park - Beautiful rock formations in red rock

California/Nevada > Lake Tahoe - First view of the lake is breath-taking.

Ok, apparently, I'm partial to beautiful nature scenery

We really don't have a destination in mind, we are literally getting in the car and driving where the road takes us. I made the thread because I thought it would be a good place to showcase some great areas of the country that don't get discussed.

But to be honest we will probably stay East of the Mississippi River, so that gives you something to go on for suggestions, of which, I would appreciate.

District of Columbia>Washington D.C. -I won't ever tire of touring the national monuments. There's something there for everyone whether you're looking to soak in American history, enjoy the nightlife or sample some great restaurants, it's all there.

^I'm certainly hoping we end up there at some point. I went when I was in 8th grade on a school trip and didn't appreciate it, now I can't wait to get back. LOL

Last summer I went to the Pigeon Forge area and Dollywood. Loved the area and also loved the park! Good food, beautiful setting and some great rides.

Re: Calling all U.S. Travelers! - Advice

when I was little, we used to drive from Louisiana to New York state to visit family. It took 3 days...but, we always had a great time...and saw lots along the way.

Just driving through West Virginia is breathtaking. I'm a little prejudice, since I was born there...but, it's truly beautiful country. Right outside Beckley, you'll find the New River Gorge Bridge. It's the bridge they have "bridge day" on...and bungee jump off of one day a year. One of the mountains that surrounds it, is Eagle's Pointe. The hiking is great, and from the very top....the river looks like someone drew on the ground with a blue sharpie!

Tennessee is gorgeous during the fall. Driving through those mountains and seeing all the different colors...will leave you with life long memories. Our favorite place is Chattanooga.....Rock City and Ruby Falls to be exact! And the neighborhoods around Lookout Mountain are adorable. With street names like Cinderella and Snow White!

And we've always loved driving down to New Orleans and visiting the Garden District. There's nothing like spending an afternoon staring at gorgeous houses...and finishing off with beignets at Cafe du Monde.

I fell in love with the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Even after living there for 5 years, I loved driving down beach road and seeing all the huge houses. Sadly, few remain. But, the lights of the casinos bouncing off the Gulf of Mexico are a beautiful sight at nighttime. And there's a few restaurants there that make me drool just thinking of them!
