Tsunami warning issued for Orange County

    Hello all.

I am sitting here at home in Newport Beach (15 miles south of Disneland for those who don't know). About an hour ago I recieved a pre-recorded message from the police department warning of a tsunami that could hit the Orange County beaches at around 2:30 pm.

My house is actually on top of a hill at an elevation of 1000 feet so personally I am not too worried. But I thought I would send this out to those of you who might be visiting the beaches right now (although with this kind of weather that shouldn't be too many). The recording was did not mention anything about evacuations but it did mention specifically to not go to the beach or go into the water if not necessary.

So I thought I'd just send out the message to you all. If there are any specific evacuations ordered I'll let you know. Although because my home would not be effected I may not even know this.

Orange County tsunami surge possible through 4 p.m. - Sciencedude : The Orange County Register

I went down to check it out at noon. The first surge was insignificant.

Thanks. I was trying to find something to post on it.

The fact the the police called the house made me think it's worth getting the word out.

The news from Hawaii isn't that bad so far. I don't think it should be any worse here.

OC got some sea level changes and some influxes in harbors and river mouths, but that's about it. Max was about 3 feet. Hard to even perceive at beaches.

There was some concern about anything on/near the Pacific. So the local news mentioned we may get something on the Puget Sound. I spent the whole day in Seattle and it was fine. Hopefully everyone is safe.

The quake was apparently so powerful, it moved Hawaii thousands of miles to the southeast.

Re: Tsunami warning issued for Orange County

I was told there was a Tsunami warning here in Santa Cruz county too , but I was told that by a 95 year old so I wasn't sure if it was true or not.

There was a really cool full moon last night so Ken and I went for a drive down by the ocean and the waves were really high. The beach where we take our dog to play was completely underwater and the waves were crashing so hard that when we drove by the beach , some of the water actually splashed up on our windshield. It was pretty awesome, but a little scary too. We didn't stay very long.
