    Best places to live near Disneyland?

    We're longtime WDW goers but recently took our first trip to Disneyland and loved it. Now we're looking to move to California and are considering moving close to Disneyland. We want to minimize our travel time to and from Disneyland. Where are nice places to live nearby? Looking for safe areas, good schools, etc.

    Thanks!

    I lived in the city of Orange for 13 years and it's generally a nice, quiet, suburban area. We lived over on the eastern edge of it, not in the hills but just below where the hills start. It's only about a 10 or 15 minute drive from there to Disneyland, in fact you don't even need to get on the freeway, just go down Katella. I'd recommend that area, however all of Orange County is very expensive.

    I grew up in the area .. and you can't go wrong with just about any city/town in OC. However .. there are places to avoid:

    * Santa Ana
    * Stanton
    * along the Beach Blvd. corridor (mostly notably around Stanton)

    If I were you - I'd look into areas west of DL .. such as Cypress, Buena Park, Anaheim .. of course, and Huntington Beach. Garden Grove ... around the civic area is nice. And you'll particularly love it during the annual strawberry festival. I've always enjoy OC's bit of old nostalgic areas .. such as the Old Town Orange. Old Town Fullerton is also nice.

    One recommendation .. don't pick the hilly areas. Such as Anaheim Hills, or down into the Laguna area. Too many brush fire dangers along the hillside communities. (And then you get the flood/mud slide issues in the hilly areas too).

    The areas surrounding DLR are nice places to live and just like any city there are good parts and their are bad parts. Unlike WDW, DLR is in the middle of a metropolitan area and has a major theme park (Knott's Berry Farm), professional baseball stadium, professional hockey arena, and a convention center as its neighbors so traffic is always an issue. If you want specific data ie crime, schools, etc try using city-data.com

    Orange is nice. I love its old town area.

    I would suggest the Costa Mesa/Irvine/Newport Beach area.

    It is centrally located in Orange County. Every area attraction you would want to go to is roughly a 20 minute drive away, including Disneyland. Of course LA is farther, but no more than an hour's drive away (during the rare occasion when there is no traffic). And some areas especially in Costa Mesa and Newport Beach are within a 5 minute drive of the beach. And trust me, once you move here you will quickly find that the beaches are just as much a destination for the locals as Disneyland is. (Actually, truth be told the beaches are way more popular especially in the summer, when you consider how many people are on the beach on any summer day as compared to how many people are at Disneyland).

    If you have children, Irvine has an excellent public school system, and University High School is one of the top public high schools in the state. Irvine is also the rated as the safest city in the USA for a city of its size.

    Newport Beach is also safe, but it is extremely expensive. It has a very nice beach and harbor, and Fashion Island with many upscale stores.

    Costa Mesa is more affordable and generally it is safe, but there are pockets in neighborhoods that may not be as safe as the other two cities. It does have South Coast Plaza, with stores ranging from Sears to Bloomingdales and Nordstrom, and if you like Broadway shows or classical and jazz music, it is also home to the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Costa Mesa and Newport Beach share a school district together, and while the schools are not as good quality-wise as in Irvine, they are decent enough.

    I hope that gives you an idea. There are a lot of other nice areas too, which no doubt others will describe.

    if a 20 minute drive isn't too far, the city of La Verne is a very safe place to live, i chose to go to Bonita High School there instead of Pomona just for the fact that it's safe and the school programs were a lot stronger. surrounding cities are Pomona, San Dimas, Glendora, Claremont and Montclaire. it's right next to the 210 freeway.. so just hop onto the 210 to the 57, and you're on your way to disneyland.

    I'd suggest Tustin, There are some areas in Santa Ana that are not bad and fairly cheap suburban areas. But in the end i'd suggest Tustin.

    Simi Valley isn't a bad place to live and is about an hour from the park. Plus it is only about 30 minutes from Magic Mountain and Universal Studios. So there is a nice benefit there. Plus being an hour away still allows you to drive to Disneyland and back without a hotel stay. Simi Valley is a suburbs to the San Fernando Valley being close to Burbank, and Hollywood. It also is quiet and pretty darn clean.

    Some parts of Anaheim are nice too, like the Platinum Triangle (If you don't mind living in an apartment).

    I'm moving on my own to an apartment complex about a mile and a half north of Disneyland next year. That part of Anaheim is ..ok. Not great, but ok. But Anaheim is a safe city regardless.

    But like the others said, Orange is also very nice.

    Depends on what part of Anaheim you're looking at. The Platinum Triangle is ok. Not the safest area but decent enough. The safest area would be Anaheim Hills. But that area is pretty much made up of doctors and lawyers so unless you have a similar salary that area might be a bit pricey.

    And then there is Lincoln Ave. Avoid that area as much as you can. I have freinds who used to live in an apartment on Beach and Lincoln and their complex is patrolled by armed security guards. Just the other day I spoke to someone else who had grown up in that area. Apparently that area is turf for a gang which he said is called the Anaheim Folks (so that must be why their security guards were armed). So needless to say that wouldn't be a place I'd recommend.

    I live down in Lake Forest and I love it. It's about 15-20 minutes from the parks (in good traffic, 45-1hr in bad), quiet, 2 safest cities in America are sandwiching me right now (Irvine and Mission Viejo), tons of schools that are within 10 minutes of each other. Orange County in general will be pricey regardless of where you go, so definitely do your research and check out surrounding areas based on your preferences.

    Yeah where I lived on Orangethorpe in Fullerton (on the Fullerton/Anaheim border) wasn't the safest. It was down right scary.
