Introducing Wenlock & Mandeville: the London 2012 Mascots

The London 2012 Olympic Summer Games organizing committee revealed the mascots today. What do you think?

So, what do you Micechatters think?

They look like Teletubbies crossed with TRON.

Is it me or does the orange one sort of resemble a body part unique to the male anatomy?

They remind me of Izzy, the Atlanta games mascot.

First thing that came to mind was this:

*singing* "Space Disc: is totally cancelled! Space Swords: is totally cancelled! Space Luge: is also cancelled! And all other events are pending!"

Is Andy Samberg collecting any royalties for inspiring these mascots?

    BLECHHHHHHHH!!!!

I just don't understand why so many of the Olympic mascots are incredibly Uuuuugly.

Below is a link to a list someone compiled of what they think the cutest mascots have been. And I only agree with some of them.

    My favorites:

Sam (disney designed it! And gee, looks familiar to DL guests, too, huh?!?!?!?)

    Vuchko

    Misha the bear

Schneeman this is unique, BUT cute

HAHAHAHA!!! I did a search and saw that someone referred to these two new mascots as a "Slug" and a "Sperm"

oops my mistake, that slug and sperm reference were to Izzy, But I really think slug and sperm work for these two new british olympic mascots, even better!

to add a little something, let me say: Spaceman Slug and Spaceman Sperm!

As I posted on another board, here are my favourites:

    These are my favourites:

Summer Games, in no particular order:

Sydney - Syd, Millie and Olly
Los Angeles - Sam (Yay Disney!)
Beijing - Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying and Nini
    Runner up:
Atlanta - Izzy (sure he was wierd, but at least he had a full face unlike those 2012 things)

    Winter Games, in order:

    1. Salt Lake City - Powder, Copper and Coal
(Salt Lake takes a substantial lead over the following)
    2. Vancouver - Quatchi, Miga and Sumi
    3. Calgary - Hidy and Howdy
    Runners up:
    Lillehammer - Haakon and Kristin
    Innsbruck - Schneemandl

I'll admit, I didn't like Vancouver's when I first saw them because I saw the costumed characters before I saw the drawn ones. Once I saw the drawn ones, they grew on me over time.

After some more pondering, the animated versions on the London 2012 website look like child-friendly liquid-metal versions of Robert Patrick's T-1000 from T2: Judgement Day:

So the story goes their eyes double as camera lenses. In that case they should be called "Big" and "Brother"

Here's a blog on the BBC website. most of the reactions are negative:
    BBC - Roger Mosey's Blog: London 2012 mascots - what's your view?
