Anybody planning to buy an Upside down Christmas Tree?

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,175099,00.html

No, your holiday binge drinking hasn't gotten that out of control so early — that Christmas tree really is upside down.

Retailers are rolling out inverted trees as a hot new novelty item this holiday season.

Claiming the new model "Leaves more room on the floor for gifts," Target offers three upside-down trees for $299.99-$499.99 on its Web site, according to USA Today

Re: Anybody planning to buy an Upside down Christmas Tree?

I've seen news stories about them this year with people questioning how silly they are, but I remember last year seeing a story about them that totally made sense. They were being used at holiday shows as a better way to disply the ornaments. For instance, one of the exhibitors they spoke with was selling these gorgeous crystal looking decorations and the upside down tree allowed them to all hang freely and be seen well. they would have been lost, clunking together or in an awkward pose on a traditional right side up tree. I still don't think i'd necesarily decorate with one myself, but knowing where they began and why helps it all not seem quite so strange to me.

    What the...
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
    Marge: Pink.
    Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

Re: Anybody planning to buy an Upside down Christmas Tree?

We were thinking of getting an upside down tree a few years ago because we have cats that like to climb our traditional tree and basically wreak havoc. We were going to hang it from the ceiling at a height where they couldn't reach it.

We ended up finding a pre-lit half tree that we can hang up on the wall out of their reach. Yep, that's right, the tree is flat on the backside. Works great and can finally display my favorite ornaments (the ones that the cats didn't break already).

Re: Anybody planning to buy an Upside down Christmas Tree?

I don't do christmas, but one year when my child was about 6 she asked why we didn;t have a tree. well, to appease her I drew one on the back of wrapping paper and used the round cardboard from the wrapping paper as a trunk. then I stuck bows on it. The upside down tree may be better than that one...LOL...I still don't buy trees or decorate.

I saw one of those at Michaels. It was so darn tacky, it was cool. I think I'm going to see if they still have them and get one just for the fun of it.

As for the upside down tree, tacky would be better than that insane thing.

Re: Anybody planning to buy an Upside down Christmas Tree?

I think the idea is f'd up, however, when I viewed the picture, it was actually pretty. You wouldn't see me foregoing a traditional tree for it, but as an "around the house" decoration (say, the center of a large table?) it would be cool. Not for $300 though.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...
