Celebrate Walt's Birthday At The Tam: Dec. 5

Several MiceChatters have expressed an interest in celebrating Uncle Walt's birthday: December 5 at the Tam O' Shanter in Los Angeles. We had a great event there in October! Here's the deal:

I'll do all the planning and arranging.

If we have 25-30 people who want to go, we can have our own room (hopefully the one with "Walt's table"). For large parties of this kind, the Tam offers several special menus ranging from $33 to $50 per person... plus tax and tip. We can choose that later. Pricey, to be sure... but really, really good food in a very special place. I will require a pre-pay for this to make sure that the people who show don't get stuck with a bill for no-shows. (If I tell the restaurant 30 people will show up and only 18 do.... they have the right to bill us for 30.)

If we have 8-12 people, I'll just make a normal reservation and everyone can order off the regular menu and get separate checks. No pre-pay required.

OK... if you want to go, vote YES in the attached poll. (There's no need to vote NO if you don't want to go. I just have to offer at least 2 options to make a poll.) This won't obligate you. This is just a survey to assess interest. Since time is short, the poll will remain open for 7 days only. It's possible that I can accept additional people after that, but no guarantee.

This can be a fun, delicious and very special event. I'd love to do it annually. Here's a link to the Tam:

EDIT: I don't want to scare anyone off because of the potential cost, so let me add a little more information:

For large groups of 15 or more, it is difficult for the kitchen to prepare everyone's meal for service at the same time if each of us orders something different off the menu. (Remember, they're also trying to feed everyone else in the restaurant that evening.) So, for large groups they offer a limited selection of entrees that we select ahead of time. The $33-$50 cost depends on whether we go for the chicken or the lobster. (Not literally, but you get the idea.) They also require payment on a single check for the entire group for their own protection. If I sign a contract for 25 people and only 12 show up, I'm stuck paying for 25. That is the reason for the pre-payment. It also includes appetizer, dessert and beverage. Normal menu prices are in the $18-$25 range per entree so this isn't far off. There is a link on their website to the "private party" menus if you'd like to see.

Frankly, I don't think we're going to get a group large enough to require this. I expect about 8-10 of us to actually decide to go. This being the case, it wouldn't be necessary to plan a "private party." I'll just make a reservation for "Chaney... party of 8" and we'll go have dinner as a group of friends and order off the regular menu and get seperate checks. If you'd like to go but not spend a ton of money, you can always order an appetizer or salad, etc. to keep your bill modest.

Voting YES in the poll does not obligate you to attend. I just need an idea of potential interest.

Approximately what time during the day would this take place? Lunch hour? Dinner hour? As the 5th does fall on a Monday (work day for many) my guess is "dinner"?

Anyhow ..... I'd love to join you all. And if it's for the dinner time .. I think I just might go.

    Thanks for the suggestion!!

Work and Wolfette make this an impossibility. Last time was great fun, so those who can make it, it's well worth it! The food was superb!

    Thanks for the sticky!

This would be a dinner. Whatever time seems to work for most, but I'm guessing around 7 or 8 pm.

We appear to be approximately seven people so far... unless you will have more than one in your party. If so, please let me know. Thanks!
