Tell us about Nebraska

The state of Nebraska is called The Cornhusker State. The population is about 1.7 million people. The state ranks 15th in land and 38th in population. The largest city in Nebraska is Omaha, and the capital is Lincoln. The distance between Disneyland and Omaha is about 1600 miles.

So do you call Nebraska home? Have you perhaps visited or passed through Nebraska?

Tell us about Nebraska.

Re: Tell us about Nebraska

Yeah!!!

Finally one I know something about!

I grew up in Nebraska, Lincoln actualy.

It was a great place to grow up.
I never really believed in the so called "mid-western values" until I moved to CA (sorry guys) but there really is such a thing.
It's nice.

It's a pretty place...
If you drive through Nebraska you think it's all farms and cornfields...Ok so a lot of it is, but it has a ton of history about it as well. It has some of the nicest places I have ever been.

It has some fantastic museums...no not like you would see in NY or somewhere very cosmopolitan, but very nice...I liked the historical museums best (boy, I wish I could remember the names of them...I will look it up later.)

Omaha has a fantastic zoo...Henry Doorly Zoo sponsered by the mutual of Omaha ( I think) has always been one of my favorite places.

When I was about 12 or 13 I remember going to a living history museum outside grand Island NE, I believe it was the Stuart museum I had the best time...I went with a volunteer program at the hospital all the volunteers were seniors and I was a junior (child) they were all retired. I was so bummed, I thought I would be bored...nope, I had the best time, that particular group of people made the trip so much more fun...they actualy grew up on farms and told me all about what life was like for them...an experience I will treasure forever.

I loved growing up in NEB. I am getting so homesick right now...I think I have to go call my grandma now.

I'll post more later....

Since when did Omaha move to Kansas? My sister and now my Mom live there, I was imprisoned for three years in Grand Island as a child. Two seasons, summer and winter, no trees, corn for miles, tornadoes and blizzards and completely flat. Hmm, sounds like a great place. And now even the football team stinks. It is a nice place to visit, but only if Hell is closed.

It's flat....

The Strategic Air Command museum is there.

Sometime the Artistic Rollerskating National Championships are held there in Lincoln.

Nebraska was a decent football team? You are obviously not from there. Anything less then 9 wins, and it is a disappointing season. There are a few unique museams in Nebr. Espeically the one stradling the interstate near Kearney. The Omaha Zoo is great.

Callahan is doing a good job (IMO) of improving this team. That victory over Colorado was superb. I always enjoy watching our ex-AD go to a school where throwing bottles on the field is "acceptable".

Re: Tell us about Nebraska

I love the seasons in NE...very distict Winter(dang it getts cold...sub zero and windchill factor though), Spring(beautiful), Summer (HOT!!!) and Fall (the changing leaves are just lovely)

I love that it is flat (mostly) makes for some amazing sky's....
the Summer storms...Oh I miss thoughs.... warm thunder storms
I fondly remember one such warm thunderstorm...sitting outside on the pourch swing at 3 in the morning with a friend, drinking coffee and watching the lightning all around...

and tornados, yes I even miss those...I remember laying on the grass in a neihbors yard watching clouds, all of a sudden they started to move...I mean really move...we watched a huge bank of clouds litteraly roll in (a truely amazing sight) then everything went green (literally looks like you put on green glasses....) an unmistakable sign....go home, a tornado is coming...and it did...but we were fine...

wow what a day that was...I have so many amazing memories of home, I could go on for days....

Re: Tell us about Nebraska

Callahan has no ties to Nebraska. They need to bring in Turner Gil or Bo Pelini. Then it would turn around. I lived there for 3 years in the 70's during Nebraska's heyday, they put all fans to shame. They will not stand for anoter bad season, but the will support that team until the end, win of lose.

Re: Tell us about Nebraska

Seasons? In Nebraska?. Ahh your memory is fading. They have two seasons, summer (boiling hot) and winter (freezing cold) in between they try to blow the state off the map with tornadoes. Lat week it was puching 70 and now they have a blizzard.
