Phoenix, Arizona caught in a MASSIVE sandstorm

It happened yesterday, over 50 miles long and over a mile high, it literally turned day into night. One can't help but think of the film, The Mummy - Imhotep is coming...

Re: Phoenix, Arizona caught in a MASSIVE sandstorm

I lived in Phoenix for about a decade, and I know one year on my birthday (just a few days away now) something similar to this happened. So I guess this is around the time it would hit.

My aunt still lives there. She was out in her friend's pool when she saw the cloud coming and ran like a bat out of hell into the house, apparently.

    HABOOB!!!!

I lived in Phoenix for 24 years of my life and have never heard those dust storms referred to as haboobs...

They happen every year during the monsoon...

    Ahhh, I miss the monsoon!

I also lived in the Phoenix area for more than 30 years before moving to CA for the last 10 or so. While this one seems to be a little bit larger than most, they are so common there. There are at least a couple of these every summer during the monsoon season. I remember watching these as a kid coming toward the neighborhood when you would be outside playing. I also miss the monsoon season and the lighting storms that would surround the valley.
