Help with a gift for a boy

I have a nephew in 5th grade and I have NO idea what kids his age are into these days. Well, I know video games, but they are beyond my budget (about $25.00), and even if I find one on sale, I don't know which ones he already has. He's not into sports much. I only want to asks his parents what he might want as a last resort (surprise factor).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for your input (or your son's ). This is a great start! I am going to have to look up what exactly a Bionicle is.

I am a little surprised about the Legos - are older kids still into them? (I know I like them but I'm a REAL older kid.)

Yeah, I know gift cards are great. I was just hoping that I could give him a "real" gift to open. It's like getting money, which, yes, kids all love, but it just doesn't seem the same as opening up an actual item. Haven't ruled them out, though.

My kid LOVE that! Especially the oldest.
Bionicles are a type of Legos. Both of my boys like them. Go to www.lego.com and check it out!

    Bionocles...I'll second that!

Fly Wheels - the new thing this year. We just took one as a gift to a party and it was the hit!

Legos are still a hit in our house too...especially in Star Wars or Harry Potter.

And anything that shoots projectiles is a big hit here...This year he wants a Marshmallow Shooter.

This is the basic fly wheel set...I think I purchased a deluxe set with two in it for Bailey...and got the extra wheels.

My 12 and 9 year old nephews are Star Wars crazy. Any thing Star Wars sends them over the moon. I'm sending them the Darth Tater for X-mas.

I played with my Lego's until I was in collage. I have no idea where they went after that but last year Bear bought me a new set that I love!!
