My friends know that I am a dedicated bicyclist. Good weather, good health, and good fortune have combined to give me the best year ever on a bicycle. I finished this year with 9203 miles. Much of it was uphill, and my total "elevation gain" for the year is 500,755 feet. That's just over a half million feet of climbing. I'm not the fastest climber I know, but I'm persistent and seldom intimidated by an uphill grade.
Of course, it helps that I'm retired, but when I was working, I was able to ride over 8000 miles a year. (About 35 miles a week was commuting by bike.) Nowadays, I average about 12 hours/week on a bike, as long as the weather's dry, I'm feeling good, and I have other cyclists to ride with.
Here I am on the Fall River Century, one of three 100 mile rides I completed this year:
It's been one heck of a year. I'm hoping I'll be able to do as well in 2012.
