    Bah Humbug!

    Bah Humbug!

I looked up Bah in the dictionary and it means expressing scorn, disgust, and disbelief. I then looked up Humbug. That word means fraud, sham, imposter.

This little phrase is best remembered by all as what the character Ebenezer Scrooge says in the story the Christmas Carol. Scrooge became disillusioned by Christmas. He stopped believing in Christmas. He gave it a hearty Bah Humbug!

What does this little phrase mean to you?

Do you ever feel that way about Christmas?

Do you perhaps think that other things, besides the holiday can be given the Bah Humbug, (like fairy tales, and nursery rhymes, and Disney stories)?

Let's have a lighthearted discussion about Bah Humbug.

    Re: Bah Humbug!

I don't think I've ever "bah humbugged" anything Christmasy in my life. Crowds don't bother me too much mainly because I don't have to deal w/ them much. I shop while the kids are still in school during "housewife hours". I feel for the folks that can only go on weekends.
I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.
That explains the trouble that I'm always in...

    Red Face Re: Bah Humbug!

I don't recall ever saying the phrase out loud. Christmas is a lot like Disneyland for me. Too many things to make me smile. It is always possible I've thought the phrase at the end of a long day of cookie baking. That nearly breaks me every year.

    Re: Bah Humbug!

Scrooge having no better answer ready on the spur of the moment, said, "Bah!'' again; and followed it up with "Humbug.''

"Don't be cross, uncle,'' said the nephew.

"What else can I be,'' returned the uncle, "when I live in such a world of fools as this Merry Christmas! Out upon merry Christmas. What's Christmas time to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, but not an hour richer; a time for balancing your books and having every item in 'em through a round dozen of months presented dead against you? If I could work my will,'' said Scrooge indignantly, "every idiot who goes about with "Merry Christmas'' on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart. He should!''

Give me a good "Bah Humbug!" anyday. I'm what you might call "seasonally challenged".
