I'm in! I won't sing, but I'll support those who do. And be jealous.

I can sing. But I hate singing in front of people. I get too nervous.

hyperbole...we can do a duet at House of Blues karaoke night and it'll be like a train wreck...we just need a "simon" to make some fantastically snide remarks about our talentlessness.

With this crowd I'm guessing we'll have more than enough hecklers!

    2) be a caroler at the DLR!!!!

    But yes, I sing.
I have a Master of Music Degree in Music Ed. Major instrument: voice. I haven't taught music since '79, but I've done a LOT of singing, including the anthem at baseball games, Merrie Olde Christmas Carolers (but not at Disneyland), barbershop quartets, weddings, funerals, operas, musical comedies, and more choirs and choruses than I care to count. I have sung in English, Italian, German, French, Spanish, Latin, Hebrew, and even Yiddish.

I read music easily and can follow other singers' parts while singing my own (which can be annoying to other singers when I correct their mistakes). I'm the "ringer" you hire at the last minute, who can pick up the music sight unseen and perform it after a run-through or two.

Family legend says I was singing songs before I learned to speak complete sentences, thanks to my older sisters' efforts. I first sang the national anthem in public at age 10.

Currently, I am not singing any regular gigs, and I'm not looking for work. I guess you could say I got a little burned out and needed a break. Despite my "unavailability", I did five paid performances this month. (It's the season.)

So, I guess I qualify as a singer.

So let me ask you a question.... in your professional opinion can someone who can't sing learn with voice lessons?

I've always wanted to sing or play an instrument. And for my 30th birthday present to myself I was planning to look into some lessons. I was thinking violin or cello, but if I could take voice lessons and actually be a decent singer, I'm all over it.

    What do you think Trekkie?

Re: MiceChat Idol (Who's a Singer?)

No formal training, but I did sing in the Early Music Vocal Ensemble as a undergrad and now I sing with a local group. I sight read fairly well and for most of our pieces know most of the parts. (We're typically short on guys, so I'm usually the tenor section. And I do mean *the* tenor section. However, I've been known to fill in on alto or soprano at the last minute.)

Of course, karaoke bars tend to be a little shy on the foreign language cuckold tunes. (Proving that certain themes are timeless, one of our recent tunes is, I swear, a 16th century Spanish version of "Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand.")

(But in the shower it's showtunes all the way!)

    Moi!

    (ahem...)

Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the Micechat lounge.
    You look beautiful tonight....

    Key of F, Johnny....

Ah one, two, ah one two

Oh the shark has pretty teeth, deah
And he shows them pearly white
Just a jack knife has MacHeath, deah
And he keeps it out of sight

When the shark bites with his teeth, babe
    Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves though wears MacHeath, babe
So there's not a trace of red

    On the sidewalk, Sunday morning
    Lies a body oozing life
    Someone's sneaking round the corner
Is the someone Mack the knife?

From a tug boat by the river
    A cement bag's dropping down
The cement's just for the weight, deah
Bet you Mack is back in town

    Louie Miller disappeared, deah
    After drawing out his cash
And MacHeath spends like a sailor
Did our boy do something rash?

    Sukey Tawdry, Jenny Diver
    Polly Peachum, Lucy Brown
Oh the line forms on the right, dear
    Now that Mack is.......

    back in towoooooooooooon!!!!

    Ahthankyouverymuch!

    I'm here til Thursday.

    Wait a sec....TODAY is Thursday!

I am . I was on a cable tv show very similar to "Zoom" when I was 15. I sang in choir and Bel Cantos when I was in high school, got awards at CMEA festivals, sang at Knotts Berry Farm and Disneyland, and was a voice performance major in college. Then I changed majors and became a K-8 teacher with minors in Spanish and Music. Now I just teach kid's choir and direct kid's musical, but I sing on the worship team at my church for fun!

PS I love the song "Come What May"....what a great choice for a wedding!

Re: MiceChat Idol (Who's a Singer?)

i love to sing, but it's been a really long time since i've performed. i started singing in choir in elementary school, was in the ensemble in junior high, did musicals & sang for sorority stuff in college & the last time i performed in public was at my friend's wedding 5 years ago, unless you count circle time when i taught i mostly sing in the car & shower now
