Do you like to visit Disney-related sites outside of the parks?

Hi guys,

So my question today is do you like to visit places that are affiliated with Disney other than the parks?

Here are some examples of what I mean:

- El Capitan Theater (To watch the Disney films)
- Disney's Soda Fountain (ice cream and desserts, next door to El Capitan)
- Griffith Park Carousel (Where Walt got his original idea of Disneyland)
- Walt Disney Family Museum
- Marcelline, Missouri (Walt's old hometown)
- Even your local Disneystore

There's also Walt's Barn in Griffith Park. Not that I go there often -- it's been several years since I was last there. But if you do go the place is pretty amazing.

Yes. I get a real strong sense of nostalgia and an emotional connection when I take my kids to Griffith Park Carousel. They love hearing the story about Walt and his daughters.

When I'm in Hollywood I always check out the soda fountain.

A highlight of our vacation to the Midwest was visiting Marceline, MO.

I used to love visiting Disney Stores, but they've lost some of their appeal to me. But in the early days, they were awesome.

I couldn't tell you exactly where the barn is but it's near the trains in Griffith Park. It's only open 1 or 2 Sundays out of the month though.

Another place that I just thought of is the original Disneyland bandstand (gazebo) which is located inside Roger's Gardens, which is about 20 minutes away from Disneyland in Corona del Mar. Nothing major, but a piece of opening day memorabilia that isn't there anymore.

How do you get to go?

The Walt Disney Family Museum is fabulous. I've only been once, but it's still breathe-taking. It was like Christmas morning when I walked into the Disneyland exhibit.

I've been to the Soda Fountain several times and seen a few films at El Capitan. I usually like to stop in at the Soda Fountain when I am in the area, but sometimes it's so glutted with tourists that I keep going. If I am passing a Disney Store I will usually stop in there, too, but I agree with those who say that DS has really lost its magic...it was so much more fun back in the day.

I wouldn't mind seeing some of the other Disney related sites but I honestly don't think I'd make special trips out of town for them--unless it was something unique like getting to go into the Studio for a tour.

This isn't as awesome as Walt's Barn, but it's not far from Disneyland and it is a genuine Disney history artifact.

Before Hyperion, before Kingswell, this was the real "original" Disney studio, now at 12174 Euclid St. in Garden Grove.

"The garage, originally owned by Robert Disney (uncle of Roy and Walt Disney) in North Hollywood, was used by Walt as a studio when he came to California in 1923. It was saved from demolition in 1984 by The Friends of Walt Disney, who housed, insured, and generously donated the historical building to the Stanley Ranch Museum."
