Waco, Texas rocked by fertilizer plant explosion, fire

Texas Rocked By Fertilizer Plant Explosion...

PAPER: '50-50' chance cause could be criminal...

Emergency responders in West are still searching for survivors after a massive fertilizer plant explosion Wednesday night in West shook the town near Waco, flattening parts of it, killing five to 15 people and injuring many more.

Daylight revealed wide devastation, with downtown sidewalks littered with glass from broken storefront windows. The explosion reduced many homes to rubble and ripped the the brick facade off a 50-unit apartment complex near the West Fertilizer Co. plant.

Search and rescue teams were combing the crumbled sites in hopes of finding survivors, including three to four missing firefighters. More than 160 injured people have been taken to hospitals, and emergency responders believe more victims might be trapped alive.

Actually I could not help but thinking of the "PEPCON Disaster" which happened at Henderson Nevada in 1988. Sad to think it has happened again. Henderson Explosion - YouTube

Despite reports of several generous Texans opening their doors to help out victims of Wednesday’s deadly explosion at West Fertilizer Company, there have been a few people walking the opposite path.

In a series of news conferences early Thursday morning, police stated that there have been reports of looting at the homes which were destroyed by the blast.

Re: Waco, Texas rocked by fertilizer plant explosion, fire

    From the article:

FEMA denied the "major disaster declaration" both for public assistance - which would give money to the city to help rebuild - and for further individual aid, which would provide for crisis counseling and other services.

"I'm not sure what their definition of a major disaster is, but I know what I see over there and it's pretty bleak," West Mayor Tommy Muska said...

...The [FEMA] letter, dated June 10, is addressed to Texas Gov. Rick Perry and signed by FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate.

Perry noted in a statement that Obama attended a memorial service in April for the victims of the West blast and "stood in front of a grieving community and told them they would not be forgotten."

"He said his administration would stand with them, ready to help," Perry said. "We anticipate the president will hold true to his word and help us work with FEMA to ensure much-needed assistance reaches the community of West."
    Unbelievable.

Disney may have finally found the grail. You don't need
imagination or art. All you need is a brand."

I can understand saying "we won't pay to rebuild your homes 500 feet from a massive fertilizer plant." But not this.
