    Favorite Song Lyrics Random Thread

This may have been done before. If so, forgive me. Thought I'd combine the random post idea with the song title game idea.

Do have have favorite lyrics, or single lines, from songs in your life? Post them here. At least one line, two tops. Any song, any genre, any era. We're of course going for the "clean" and not "explicit" versions here if you know what I mean. I suggest maybe 2-3 songs at a time...doesn't matter what the person before you posted.

If possible, give song title and artist for your lyric.

    To start:

"She's living in L-A, with my best old ex-friend Ray...guy she said she knew well but sometimes hated..."
Operator (That's Not The Way It Feels) Jim Croce

"If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck...but if memories were all I sang, I'd rather drive a truck..."
    Garden Party, Rick Nelson

If by chance that special place, that you've dreaming of...leads you to a lonely place, find your strength in love...
Greatest Love Of All, Whitney Houston -

Have fun with it! I've got plenty more...and if you're not sure of exact lyrics, it's okay with me if you "Google"...

    Barry
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I'm so small and if I was a movie star
I'd seal my youth in a can on reel
And then I could be twelve feet tall
That's why I wear my hair so big
Some people think it might be a wig
But it's all part of my plot
To prove I'm not a dot

    Here are three random choices:

He bought her a diamond for her throat
He put her in a ranch house on a hill
She could see the valley barbecues
    From her window sill
See the blue pools in the squinting sun
Hear the hissing of summer lawns
    - Joni Mitchell (Hissing of Summer Lawns)

I have a secret to tell
    From my electrical well
It's a simple message and I'm leaving out the whistles and bells
So the room must listen to me
    Filibuster vigilantly
My name is blue canary one note* spelled l-i-t-e
    My story's infinite
Like the Longines Symphonette it doesn't rest
-They Might Be Giants (Birdhouse in Your Soul)

I got a stolen wife And a rhinestone life And some good ol' boys/I'm writing my will On a three dollar bill In the evening time/Matchsticks strike When I'm riding my bike to the depot/'Cause everybody knows my name At the recreation center/If I could only find a nickel I would pay myself off tonight
    -Beck (Sissyneck)

I thought about posting that one, too. Good choice!

BTW, it's beat up, not shot down.

That was going to be my choice!!!!!

    I also like:

I will never say the word
    "Procrastinate" again; I'll never
See myself in the mirror with my eyes closed
    I didn't apologize for
When I was eight and I made my younger brother
Have to be my personal slave

Did a large procession wave their
Torches as my head fell in the basket,
And was everybody dancing on the casket?

Now it's over I'm dead and I haven't done anything that I want
Or, I'm still alive and there's nothing I want to do

    Johnny Cash "Hurt"
    http://www.hit-country-music-lyrics....hurtlyric.html

"I hurt myself today to see if I still feel I focus on the pain the only thing that's real the needle tears a hole the old familiar sting try to kill it all away but I remember everything what have I become? my sweetest friend everyone I know goes away in the end you could have it all my empire of dirt

I will let you down I will make you hurt
I wear my crown of thorns on my liar's chair full of broken thoughts I cannot repair beneath the stain of time the feeling disappears you are someone else I am still right here what have I become? my sweetest friend everyone I know goes away in the end you could have it all my empire of dirt

I will let you down I will make you hurt
If I could start again a million miles away I would keep myself I would find a way "

These are cliche, I know. But, I like 'em. They run through my head most days.

Through the storm we reach the shore. You give it all but I want more. And I’m waiting for you. With or without you ~U2

I need a photo-opportunity, I want a shot at redemption. Don't want to end up a cartoon, in a cartoon graveyard. Bonedigger Bonedigger. Dogs in the moonlight. Far away my well-lit door. Mr. Beerbelly Beerbelly, get these mutts away from me. You know I don't find this stuff amusing anymore. ~Paul Simon

And you can tell everybody this is your song. It may be quite simple but now that it's done. I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I put down in words...how wonderful life is while you're in the world. ~ Elton John
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
    Marge: Pink.
    Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

    Great choice! I love Beck.

    Here's a fave from Guero:

    You know there's something missing"

Yeah. Beck has some fascinating lyrics. One can never take him too seriously, either.

Definitely this is the wrong place to be
    There's blood on the futon
    There's a kid drinking fire
    Going down to the sea
    They got people to meet
    Shaking hands with themselves
    Looking out for themselves.

Cyanide Breath Mint (Beck from One Foot in the Grave)
