Re: Los Angeles on the cheap...

Since you are staying downtown check out this website. They do wonderful walking tours and they cost very little. Stop by the Biltmore Hotel, the Original Pantry on Figueroa for breakfast or lunch, Phillipe's for French dips...it's been there since the '20s and is on the edge of Chinatown. Forget the street. Have fun!

Dodgers v Angels in pre-season Freeway Series.

Olvera is good for a walk-through. I don't find it all that.
    Chinatown has some good food.
Try Roy's, too. Don't know if you have Roy's where you are.

Also, when you're walking around Downown LA, note the sidewalks. Sometimes, you can see the remnants of old theaters or department stores. Do check out theater row. There might be one or two theaters still in one piece. Some are swap meets, though.

Gold line from Union Station will take you to Pasadena. Good for a walk-around.

Downtown Los Angeles has the largest number of movie palaces in the world within a two block area. My earlier post about The Los Angeles Conservancy walking tours does an almost three hour visit to many of them on selected Saturday mornings.

What if the weather starts getting rough? Would the group get tossed? I sure hope the fearless group leaders have courage, so that the group won't be lost.

There are lots of cheap resturants in Little Tokyo that serve authentic, homestyle Japanese food. They're really inexpensive, and the food is fantastic!

My favorite is Kou-ra-ku. Awesome ramen and omlete dishes, but my favorite is their fried rice and miso soup combo. Less than $5, and it really fills you up.
