Um....excuse me....did y'all hear who just won their home opener against the highest paid team in the universe?

    THE ANAHEIM ANGELS, BABY!

I remember growing up, my older brother was a die-hard Sox fan. The Sox were not a very good team for many years, and the Yankees were their greatest rivals. My brother would always get really cocky, whenever the Sox beat the Big Bad Yankees.

And it is done...young Ervin Santana and as usual outstanding Angel bullpen outpitch a solid Randy Johnson for a 3-2 win.

The difference...Adam Kennedy's 2-run triple in the fifth, breaking a 1-1 tie, as the Angels improve their best overall record in the AL against the Yankees over the last 10 years (The Joe Torre regime).

Yankees score only on solo shots by Jeter in the 1st and Matsui in the 9th. I might trust Frankie Rodriguez as a closer one day...but not yet...I'd go with Shields, although he's one heck of a "setup" guy...

Angels go for a sweep Sunday afternoon...Dodgers, meantime, with the rarest of all things...a doubleheader, after a rainout in Philly.

    Re: Talkin' Baseball 2006 - It's Here!

I was away from my television set yesterday, so I didn't watch either the Cubs win or the White Sox loss. A lot of Cubs fans have bets with White Sox fans, as who will end up with the best record at the season's end.

Being new to the entire world of computers, I have discovered that Major League Baseball has it's own website. The Chicago newspapers, both the Chicago Sun Times and the Chicago Tribune also provide equally good coverage of all the news and it is just a click away. Some people know these things instinctively. I have just disovered it.

So I am up early this morning checking the standings and reading a few things about what happened yesterday in the world of sports, while I was away from my television.

    Modern technology is great.

Santana brought it last night! I remember 2002, the same year they won the series, when it seemed like they didn't win a game until JUNE. The team is looking good, with clutch hitting by Kennedy and Quinlan. Keep an eye on Tim Salmon, cuz you just never know when he'll pop one over the fence!

    GO ANGELS!!

I'm excited, I get to see my Twins play for the first time in, I can't even remember how long. SG's sister got us tickets to the Angels-Twins game in late May!

Michael Barrett, the catcher for the Cubs hits a grand slam home run at Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cubs sweep the St. Louis Cardinals. The North Side team is getting it done, so far. Good vibes at Wrigley.

White Sox win and fans breathe a sigh of relief. The team is defintely under a microscope this season, thanks to their success of last year.

    Re: Talkin' Baseball 2006 - It's Here!

The Chicago Cubs signed Derek Lee to a 5 year, $65M, deal. He becomes the top paid player on the team. Many think, he's definitely worth the money. I find it hard to comprehend how baseball players have come to make so much money over the years. An injury, can take away their careers, in a split second. The average fan cannot afford to attend as many games as they would like. I am sure Derek Lee is a happy man this morning. Wrigley Field, will have a familiar face, at 1st base, until 2010.

Cubs are getting trounced by the Reds. Ron Santo led the 7th inning stretch, singing of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". He leads that singing more times than anyone, I think. He's a fan favorite. Derek Lee was applauded extra loud, when he came to bat for the first time today. Even though the Cubs will probably lose this game, most of the fans are still in their seats. Of course, it's great baseball weather today in Chicago. Cubs losing 9 to o.

Both the Cubs and the Sox are playing in the afternoon today. Derek Lee is a class act. He announced yesterday, that he wants to bring a World Series to the Cubs, so that the fans can go crazy. Word is that he could have gotten more money somewhere else. Granted, he's not making peanuts, but he didn't jump ship.
