I'm DONE pre-ordering from the Disney Store

We Pre-ordered Chronicles of Narnia last month from the Disney store.

Go in the store today to pick it up and they ONLY have Full-Screen.

I asked "Are you only offereing Full-Screen or are you just out of Wide-Screen".
She answered "For the Pre-order we only had Full-Screen".
I said "You didn't specify that during the Pre-order period"
She said "We only told people that if they asked"
I said "Can I return it then because I want Wide-Screen"
She said "Only with the ORIGINAL receipt"
I said "So my voucher isn't good enough to prove I bought it?"
    She said "No"

So now I'm looking for my original receipt and I'm REFUSING to open up this full-screen copy.

Did anybody else pre-order Narnia and have similar problems, or no problems at all?

I hate full screen too- you lose part of the picture. Just because it fills your screen doesn't mean you are getting more out of it. You lose the sides of the picture, and things get squished to fit. Wide screen is the way to go-letter box just serves to show you the FULL picture, just like in the theatres.

Sorry Clinks- have not even bought it yet. Mom did, she picked it up as Costco and they had like 5 versions! (wide screen, full screen, 2 disc full, 2 disc wide, 1 disc with a one hour reading of Caspian etc) It's crazy....

Re: I'm DONE pre-ordering from the Disney Store

Karla, it was $20 ... which is funny because I saw the same exact version at Circuit City for $14. Talk about a rip.

I just sent off the following email to Disney:

    Good Morning,

I pre-ordered "The Chronicles of Narnia" from your Ventura, CA Disney Store. I have pre-ordered at least 15 Disney movies this way and have never had a problem.

This time I went into the store last Saturday to pick up my DVD and they only had the "Full-Screen" version. When I asked the Cast Member about this I received the following reply:

    - The Pre-order we only had Full-Screen.
    - We only told people it was Full-Screen if they asked.
    - You can Only return the movie with the ORIGINAL receipt.
    - No your voucher isn't good enough for a return

So with this one incident I am done pre-ordering DVD's.

Is what the Cast Member told me accurate? Was the pre-order only for Full-Screen and not communicated to the consumer? It sure seems like a Bait and Switch tactic to me.

    I would appreciate a response.

    Thank you.

Re: I'm DONE pre-ordering from the Disney Store

Disney Store now has a policy... well more like rule of thumb, that if there are two versions of the movie (Full and Wide) TDS will only carry Full Screen. As for the Receipt, the Store has a very strong policy about returns of DVDs requiring a receipt. Over the history of the store, there have been lots of guest abusing the policy, which caused the store to become very strict about a receipt being needed for a return, this policy has been in effect even before the stores were sold off.

as for the prices at other stores, normally during the first week or two, other stores will offer the movie cheeper then TDS, but after that they normally go up to the suggested retail price of $29.99, while TDS offers most of its movies for $19.98 year around (in the past some more of the classics that had been out for awhile went up to about $24).

Also, if you would like to write and complain, you need to e-mail the Disney Store and not the Walt Disney Company. The stores are now owned and operated by the Children's Place.
Thank You for dropping by my post. I do hope you enjoyed your stay....

^ And unfortunately I'm finding out that every other place won't do an exchange even on an un-opened DVD.

So it looks like I may be out $20 unless I can maybe cell it on ebay or something. That seems like too much trouble to be honest though.

Can Disney Store look up your original purchase from the Credit Card like other stores can do? I don't think I have the original receipt.

They don't make any sense though. You obviously paid for it, hence the pre-order. You couldn't possibly have purchased it anywhere else, since they had just put it into your hands. The voucher is good enough to show that you pre-paid, but not good enough for a return, which isn't even really a return anyway. You weren't trying to return it, just un-buy it!

    That's lame.

You can try to get your credit card company involved.

You'd think by now that the general public would understand why letter-box is the only way to view most movies.
I was trying to get a letter-box version of a non-Special-Edition "The Sound of Music," but it was not offered. There was a cropped version. The reasoning is that people who buy letterbox are more likely film buffs who'd also want the extra disc "making of's" and all that. As it was going to be a present, I declined to buy either version, choosing another gift instead.

^ Actually, we decided to just give it to either my Mom or my in-laws as part of their Easter present. Probably my Mom.

At least that way the kids can watch it when they stay over.

Thanks a bunch for the offer though.

I'm still complaining to the Disney Store about this though.

This is the issue that TDS has had for years! They only get full screen in. We even had a CM from Burbank from BV Distr. and asked him about it. It's sad, but it's true. My TDS would take the return, sorry yours wouldn't.
