Another near winner for the Darwin Awards

There are times when you just want to yell "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?!?!?!". And this guy is a teacher to boot!!!!

    (04-04) 16:05 PDT Ventura, Calif. (AP) --

A teacher who kept a 40 mm shell on his desk as a paperweight blew off part of his hand when he apparently used the object to try to squash a bug, authorities say.

The 5-inch-long shell exploded Monday while Robert Colla was teaching 20 to 25 students at an adult education class.

Part of Colla's right hand was severed and he suffered severe burns and minor shrapnel wounds to his forearms and torso, fire Capt. Tom Weinell said. No one else was injured. He was reported in stable condition at a hospital.

The teacher slammed the shell down in an attempt to kill something that was buzzing or crawling across the desk, said Fire Marshal Glen Albright.

Colla found the 40 mm round while hunting years ago and "obviously he didn't think the round was live," said Dennis Huston, who teaches computer design alongside Colla.

I bet they had to remove organic material from his shorts, too.

    Then there's this one:

    (04-12) 19:15 PDT Gillette, Wyo. (AP) --

A teenage boy accidentally set himself on fire early Wednesday morning after allegedly trying to siphon gas from a firefighter's car.

Police first learned of the injury after a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy claimed that someone had thrown gasoline on the 17-year-old at the Common Cents service station and lit him on fire, said Lt. Rod Hauge.

The boy was taken to the hospital with second- and third-degree burns on his legs. Police were called to the hospital to investigate the incident and later learned that the 17-year-old spilled gas on his pants while siphoning gas. He then used a lighter to try to determine how wet his pants were and set himself of fire, Hague said.

Both boys have been ticketed with larceny, Hauge said.

One of my Fatherís older Brothers accidentally killed himself trying to see how much gasoline was in a gas tank. He used a lit match as a light source. He was 17 at the time too. (Why does 17 and stupidity always seem to go hand-in-hand?)

Because at 17, men never have any blood in their brains.

That usually starts at 15-16.. then lasts until they die. The blood goes to a head, but not to the brains.
