Hi everyone, I was wondering if theres anyone on MiceChat particularly good with maths or brainteasers. One of my neighbours is quite elderly, he doesn't live with any family and he doesn't get out much, so I try and do stuff with him when I can, like go round and talk to him about what I'm doing at school etc. Anyway, I couldn't visit him last Thursday so he sent me a brainteaser to my mum - we are both confunded. I was wondering if you could help.
One of my step-daughters, Julie, asked me to sponser her running the London Marathon for the RSPCA. I said I would give her £1.00 for every mile she completed, plus £1.00 for every hour she took to complete it.
I gave her £33.00 and told her to keep the change, which was £0.11.
She completed the marathon, with her medal (he sent the medal round to me), but how long did it take her?
So basically - he said he would pay £1 for every mile, and £1 for every hour.
He gave her £33, but she earnt £32.89 because he told her to keep the £0.11 change.
Can anyone get their heads around this?
PS Obviously £26 of that money went towards the miles, because there are 26 in a Marathon
