Angry David Blaine - Trickless Magician

Why is this guy still on TV?

I turned on GMA this morning to see David Blaine in a fishbowl in SCUBA gear, talking about how he was going to stay in the water for 7 days. They're making a TV special about it too. I mean, if he was going to stay in the water for 7 days WITHOUT the breathing equipment.... THAT would be impressive. I mean this "trick" isn't even dangerous. What's the worst that can happen, he's going to have REALLY bad prune fingers?

Is this really the best TV has to offer?

People can stay underwater for 7 days without breathing? I can't last 7 minutes without breathing lol.

EDIT: Oh my bad, I mis read the first post. So he is going to be submerged in water with breathing equipment?? That's boring.

From what I understand the 7 days with breathing equipment is simply to hyp up the special that comes at the end of the 7 days. He's supposedly going to ditch the equipment and hold his breath for a "record breaking" 9 minutes. Whatever. still lame. This guy just annoys me and I don't see what the entertainment value is in his stunts. That is what they are in my opinion, "stunts" not "magic".

You know, I'll admit I did watch his first TV special when it came out, what 5 years ago? But that was just because I thought he was hot. The hotness factor has more than worn off now, especially since he's spending a week swimming in his own filth.

When is his 15 minutes up?

I miss the old days of magic, with David Copperfield and that crazy guy in the 70's with the leotard and the long hair. THAT was magic!

I thought the special he had a while back ago that re-airs on TLC every once in a while was pretty friggin' cool. The card tricks where he threw one card and it ended up on the other side of glass? He had his moments when he would walk the streets. These specials now? Eghhh...I dunno.

YES!!!!!! He so totally rocked! I mean the hair, the leotard, the moustache. It really doesn't get better than that. Well, maybe Penn and Teller, but that's a different kind of better.

That was magic! This stuff..... its not even good enough for Fran Tarkenton to tout on "That's Incredible"

Re: David Blaine - Trickless Magician

The thing is, I really used to like David Blaine when he first came out. I was happy a magician was doing something more elaborate than a "pull the rabbitt out of the hat" trick. Now, he has just gotten boring. He tries to emulate Houdini, but ends up looking like a 3rd rate entertainer. He's nothing more than the Donald Trump of magic, and that's a shame since it's always nice to see magic on primetime television.

Re: David Blaine - Trickless Magician

He was never a good magician. Never.

And it's been a LOOOOOOOONG time since he's done anything other than "performance art."

He was always a sloppy magician. Remember that street magic special he had several years ago? The first and last time he did any magic? Well, that's why the magic professionals all hate him. A lot.

He has unethical practices. He's no better than John Edwards. Trick doesn't work so well? No worries. We can edit it later.

Yep. Most of the magic is in the editing process. He'll do something, tape the reactions of somebody reacting to something totally unrelated.

I hear his next magic trick will be to kiss a dead trout. Twice.

I love magic... but hate David Blaine
I guess it is mainly that I just dislike his style... as others have said he is more of a stuntman than magician
I'm into more of the flashy tricks... acts though that go beyond just pulling a rabbit out of a hat, or things with birds... bird tricks I kind of find boring just because I have seen them done so many times before
There are some simple tricks that I just love because they are always so effective
Why don't they have those World's Greatest Magic specials on anymore? I absolutely loved those

I think the magic trick is seeing where he's going to poop after a few days. I mean, warm water is one thing, but, well...oh dear.

Garwsh, that was middle school humor.

    Makes ya wonder, tho.

Unfortunately we won't get to see that. According to the interview he did on GMA this morning, he's on a purely liquid diet.... all gatorade and pedialight.
