Don't forget PMS. There is a girl who works for me that always uses that excuse and HR is so afraid that she'll sue us that they let her get away with it. Of course, you'll need a sex change first (which you might be able to get a few days off for as well).

Is'nt there such a thing as male Pms? Sex change may be a little drastic for a day at DL or maybe not.

doesn't this mean that you'll have to play along for an unknown number of days when people come up to give their condolences? sounds complicated..

    Re: Calling Out...

We have paid sick leave at work and up to five days of bereavement leave, but I would never say that a relative has died when one hasn't, even though they don't require "proof" to get paid.

I'd worry too much about it really happening. Something was said about Karma. I don't mess with that kind of stuff.

When I want to take a sick day, I just say that I am "sick". It violates personal/confidentiality laws if the employer inquires into what disease you have. If it is more than four days, they require a Dr.'s note, but then again, it just says the leave is for an "illness".

If I lied about a death and that family member even as much as gets sick within a short time after that, I would REALLY be sick and worried that I caused it. But that is just me. I have a strong conscience...

I'll call in sick, but playing the death card is such bad karma, there's no way I'd even try it.

    Re: Calling Out...

I would never use a family member or loved one's "fake" illness or demise to get off of work. Really bad karma. Plus, many companies will ask for an obituary of the deceased.

Some women can have really bad PMS. When you can't even sit up with some cramps it is hard to work.

None of my illnesses have been faked. I don't need to fake needing a mental health day. Sometimes its what's needed so the employee doesn't go postal.

    Re: Calling Out...

I am sooo afraid of the karma of calling in sick that I never lie about the kids being sick so I can stay home. Don't want to the kids to actually get sick. I have the same fear with saying anything about car troubles.

Strange thing is though, I have not qualms about telling the kids school that they are sick on a day I keep them home, even if they are not sick. Go figure. (And the kids will be "sick" the Friday before Memorial Day.)

I have a few tricks up my sleeve for work, but I am going the route of Onut and I will keep my secrets safely guarded.
Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.

Question- what would you say if she did die (and I hope she doesn't for a long time- "Hi- I can't come into work because my grandma died-again."

I don't call in sick, unless I'm sick.

    Re: Calling Out...

I don't get paid time off, so I don't call out unless I myself am on my death bed. That's not to say that I don't occasionally take time off, but I plan it so that I can make up the hours on a different day.

Having keys to the building is quite nice though. If I want to take off on a Tuesday to do something special, I just come in on Saturday or Sunday to make up the hours.

Same here. But if I need a day off from work (even though I'll regret it the day I get back...) I'll use a vacation day. I ain't planning on having an ACTUAL vacation in this year so I just those days (10 btw) to have my own "vacation". Used one on 04/25 and went to Disneyland after a dentist appt. But I'll be glad once I get out of school for the summer so I can go after work during the week.

    Re: Calling Out...

I only get a few sick days per year so I really do not want to take advantage of that. On the plus side, if I don't use them before the year ends then they are lost. I know how that sounds bad, but my work environment is very laid back.

I've only used a few this year and it was for bronchitis, which I had never had before.
It's tempting, I dont believe in letting down my coworkers.
