Walt's Barn

It's not often that we get the opportunity to experience a little bit of Uncle Walt's personal life, but Victoria and I did today. Located in Griffith Park, near Los Angeles, is the home of Los Angeles Live Steamers. This is a club dedicated to scale model live steam locomotives and trains. Walt Disney was a charter member. This is also the new home of Walt's Barn. This building was originally located in Uncle Walt's backyard in Holmby Hills and was the nerve center of his Carolwood Pacific Railroad: the miniature train in his backyard. The barn was moved to Griffith Park in 1999 to preserve it for future generations. Diane Disney Miller dedicated the barn by saying, "Our hearts and our heritage are in this barn."

Walt's Barn is open to the public every 3rd Sunday and is FREE to the public. For more information, go to http://www.carolwood.com

Inside the barn are many of Walt's personal trains.

Uncle Walt's Hat

Walt used this antique phone to talk to Lillian.

One of Walt's miniature trains.

Walt's first steam train... ordered from England.

Walt's workbench... built with his own hands.

The only known remaining section of Walt's Carolwood Pacific track.

Remember the Firehouse 5 + 2?

A wonderful model of the Monorail you can operate with the button!

After firing up the Lilly Belle, Walt would clean up and have a shave here. Yes, that's Uncle Walt's mug and razor on the shelf.

Re: Walt's Barn

Wow! Very cool! We'll have to go up there one weekend. Maybe we could do the zoo or observatory and make a day of it.
