Just visit and buffet. (I'll get to our hotel later, we stayed downtown)

Great pics Morrigoon! Looks like you had a GREAT time, even though you lost some cash. Glad to hear you didn't make the strip go 101.

And so....it was HOT, yes? Was it over 110?

Bellagio's pool area. One of these days I'm going to stay at this hotel, and I don't care if it's 50 or 100 degrees out, I'm going in that pool!

And before we depart from Bellagio, one last look at that fabulous lobby and the field of pansies that is the glass ceiling (I've heard some call it a chandelier...)

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Re: Morrigoon's Vegas Trip Report 7/2-7/4 (photo heavy!)

Rumor has it the Barbary Coast may be one of the next hotels on the chopping block, so a quick picture of it (with the Flamingo Hilton behind it... the Flamingo Hilton incorporates part of Bugsy Segal's original Flamingo Hotel, if memory serves me correctly)

A view north, up the strip from one of the pedestrian bridges (the one from Bellagio across to Bally's). On the left side of the strip is the front parts of Caesar's (a truly enormous property, and the hotel towers are set way back, out of this picture). Beyond it, the Mirage and Treasure Island. On the right side, you can just see the Barbary Coast and the Flamingo. Imperial Palace is barely visible, just what appears to be in front of Treasure Island (though they're actually on opposite sides of the street)

A view of the front of the Paris

And a view south, from the same bridge. Paris on the left, behind the Eiffel Tower you can just discern a bit of the Aladdin's hotel tower (the Aladdin is in the process of changing over to the Planet Hollywood, btw). On the right, you can see Bellagio, Monte Carlo, NYNY, and Mandalay Bay off in the distance.

The bridge partially obscures the entrance to Ballys. Pity, because it's a cool effect, but honestly in the days of highly-themed hotels, how much longer can Ballys expect to survive with nothing but a cool looking entrance? Well, being connected underground to the Paris, perhaps for a while yet.

That's Vegas for you... all the wonders of the world recreated, massive video screen signs, and the unavoidable mobile "Hot Babes" billboard.

Re: Morrigoon's Vegas Trip Report 7/2-7/4 (photo heavy!)

Speaking of which, apparently Bally's is banking on its "Old Vegas" style showgirls. Ballys has one of the few traditional "feather" showgirl type acts left.

What was I saying about the cool entrance?

But other than that, there isn't much about Bally's to photograph (because they don't want you taking pictures on a casino floor - but I try to sneak some later at the Venetian!)

So underground we go, to the Paris!

Okay, apparently I did try to sneak in a photo of Paris' casino floor, but, being the nervous type, I'd already gone a bit too far around the corner, so all you can see is the bar in the corner of their expansive casino

There is one store there that always has these gorgeous dresses on display. Not that they carry my size or anything, but I was pleased to discover their prices were not all that unreasonable (for what they are). The dresses on each side here were both under $200

(as was a particularly STUNNING necklace and earring set they had in the back of the store Oh. My. God.)

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Back on the pedestrian bridge we go! Gotta get the car to head further down the strip. But first... Caesar's!

    No, I haven't left Vegas...

These waterfalls are actually part of the entrance for the Wynn casino. Here you can see the tower in the background

And Talon and friends in the foreground!

Re: Morrigoon's Vegas Trip Report 7/2-7/4 (photo heavy!)

But we weren't headed into the Wynn... no reason to now that they've cancelled Avenue Q. The Wynn, while very nice, is basically a swanky version of Bellagio. For my high-minimum gambling dollar, I'd rather be at Bellagio.

Their pedestrian bridge to (what I understand may be an expansion of the Venetian?), which connects via a very crowded (right now) sidewalk to the current Venetian, does afford one a very nice view of Treasure Island.

So here I try to sneak in a picture of the casino floor, hah.

The walkway (to the right of the Grand Lux Cafe) to the new Phantom theatre

And me FINALLY succeeding in getting a clandestine pic of the Venetian's casino floor

Bear with me here, kids, I'll try to limit my pictures of Phantom banners to only a few here (for more, I'll start a thread later strictly about Phantom, k?)

And one sole Phantomless shot of the Venetian's exterior (unless you count a bit of banner in the top left corner)

This one is for the Gibson Girls... on the corner of the Venetian's exterior, just downstairs from Madam Tussaud's, is the shangri-la of Sephora lovers

By the way, at this point you are basically across the street from Treasure Island and the Mirage. The top floors of the Mirage currently bear an ad for Love, the new Cirque du Soleil show based on the music of the Beatles

After a visit to my favorite "cheap casino" (before I knew that I could play the same minimums at a Coast Casino without having to wait an hour to get on the craps table), we headed back over the Rialto bridge, back into the Venetian (hey, I had a show to see!) Woo! it must have been hot, look at them glisten, kids! Oh wait, that's just me. Well, it was warm, but in the desert dry, I'd rather take a Vegas 100 over an OC 90. Seriously.

Talon took a moment to show me how to ski in the desert (it apparently involves a downhill speedramp or escalator)

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Re: Morrigoon's Vegas Trip Report 7/2-7/4 (photo heavy!)

One of the MOST spectacular things about the Venetian, even moreso than the upper-floor indoor canals, in my opinion, is the artwork on the ceiling when you first enter.

But it's not always easy to photograph...

Umm... apparently one thing to AVOID in the Venetian is the California Fruit something-or-other in their food court. They were closed for "Substantial Health Hazards" according to this sign.

Did I mention I was going to see Phantom? Of course, since pictures are not allowed during the performance (and since I have a VERY large and obvious camera), all you get is the setup prior to showtime

And the crowd exiting the theatre 90 minutes later

And maybe a detail of some etched glass, that was a consistent theme throughout the outer hallways of the theatre... even when covering an ACTUAL chandelier

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Re: Morrigoon's Vegas Trip Report 7/2-7/4 (photo heavy!)

By this time, of course, night had fallen on the Las Vegas strip

And since I can't decide which of these pics is my favorite, you get to see all three of them

And looking northward from the same pedestrian bridge, you see the Fashion Show Mall on the left and the Wynn on the right, with the Frontier, Stardust, and Stratosphere in the distance. The Frontier, by the way, was bought by Trump, however, he's apparently having some licensing issues, so he's not been able to shut it down and rebuild yet. I think he has some sort of temporary deal allowing him to keep Frontier open for the time being, but he's not going to shut that down till he can open a Trump casino, is he? I hear rumors of bad blood between him and Steve Wynn (who tried to build in Atlantic City and found himself stymied by a city council who later settled, along with Trump, out of court. But of course this is all rumor, so take it for what it is)

TI's stupid new sign, which wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that it replaced a really awesome sign featuring a several-stories tall skull on it, and instead we got this stupid TI

The Wynn looks pretty cool at night, though I like it better by day because of the unusual color glass they used

Amazingly, the only picture I took of our hotel, the Golden Nugget, was its valet entry

    And today, we drove home

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Re: Morrigoon's Vegas Trip Report 7/2-7/4 (photo heavy!)

Okay, a couple things I did not cover because I was so intent on getting pics up:

Stayed at the Golden Nugget. Really nice rooms. Buffet has gone down considerably in quality. Dinner was TERRIBLE and breakfast was just okay. My consolation is, part of our hotel deal included a $40 dining credit, and we got comps for breakfast, so you can be pretty bad and still be worth "free". Dinner wasn't worth it though. Seriously, this is not the Golden Nugget buffet of a couple years ago (when it was run by the same folks who did Bellagio's buffet). Next time, I'm eating in the cafe. Period.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the casino area at the Plaza. I really liked it. It was old school, but classy in an old-school kind of way, like stepping back in time 30 or 40 years.

Still haven't ridden the monorail. $5 per trip or $15 per day is great if you're staying on strip and planning on drinking. We were doing neither, so, umm... yeah, another trip, I guess.

The condo building is really getting out of hand. Seriously. I have nothing else to add about that, just wanted to get it off my chest. They're even building a condo high-rise and claiming "Newport style" in a Vegas location... but they're building it downtown, with slums across the street. What are these people thinking?

Weather was great, especially compared to the heat and humidity we've had here in OC the last week or two.

Phantom tickets run from $75-$125. There isn't a bad seat in the house. I was in the far back corner, and had a terrific view. Actually, if you have to be on a far side of the balcony, you're better off being further back... more favorable angles. The half-price ticket booths like the one at Fashion Show Mall do NOT carry Phantom ticktes (but they do now have discounted Mamma Mia tix!)

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

Very nice! So how was the phantom show? How did they make it smaller?

I love the Venetian! It is wonderful. The art work on the ceiling is so awesome.Glad you and Talon had a great time.

Your right. The new TI sign sucks.

    Great trip report though!
