Mandalay Bay was awesome. We were upgarded to a suite. i didn't want to leave the room...LOL...as far as themeing for casinos...I can careless. i there to gamble...I hate excalibar with a passion and would never stay there. We have stayed at treasure island (I was not impressed) and The mirage. The Mirage was nicer, but not somehting I have to stay at again. I liked staying at NY, NY....The MGM had small rooms and the casino is to big....anyway, my favorite was mandalay...the one draw back being it's to far down the strip. We stay at the flamingo the most, but only because we get comped there...

I miss going to Vegas. Last time I was there I was with someone who was a big wig at PG&E. She suprised me by getting us a suite for 3 days there at the Belligio. If you have never stayed there, all I can say is 'Do'. The beds are the softest I have ever been in, the showers are glass enclosed and huge, and the rooms that overlook the dancing waters have a special channel on the TV so you could watch the fountains in the coolness of your rooms while listening to the music.

I would have to disagree with the buffet though. I found it to be overpriced for the over and undercooked food that was offered. We ate a lot at the poolside cafe, Margaritaville, and at The Cheesecake Factory.

SCUBA: I'm with you on Excalibur's rooms, I wouldn't want to stay there either (or any other Mandalay Group property with the possible exception of Mandalay itself offered at a discount). However, I love gambling in Excalibur's casino. Unfortunately, Talon no longer does, because he got his pocket picked there last year.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

The NYNY is a ok place to stay. Princess Picard and I stayed there a few years ago. The rooms are all right, the price was terrific (we got them for free as we were there for her job), they got the best pizza around, and our room had a great window that was right next to the roller coaster tracks (nuff said.. what goes on in Vegas stays in Vegas. lol!!)

I would love to stay in their rooms. Unfortunately I haven't gotten to yet.

I'm very surprised to hear you say that about their buffet. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience there, though I still believe I'll stick to lunch and dinner and avoid the brunches, but that's just because the breakfast stuff cuts into the other offerings. I've certainly never had a bad shrimp in the place, and most places I won't even try the shrimp because I don't trust it - shrimp is too easy to screw up. Also, I find that often Bellagio has more imaginative offerings... I keep hoping they'll bring out the curried sweet potato soup again, for example.

On the other hand, I find their cafe to be vastly overpriced for what it is.

Looks like you had a great time!!! I haven't been to Vegas in ages and the last two times I went I was pregnant (different kids) so no sitting around all day getting "free" drinks!

    Loved all the great pictures!!!

I stayed at the NYNY in January & March of this year -they have redone all thier rooms and are much nicer than they were a few years ago. They do have a very nice Italian restaurant! That said, I'm really not a fan of the casino.

Do stay at the Venetian if you ever get the chance - OMG! I was there for meetings last year, waaaaaaaahhhh!!! All I wanted to do was hang out in my room! The tub was to die for.....

I stayed off-strip (15 minutes) last November at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson. It's ok (got upgraded cause of my job ) and it has some really nice bars, I love the patio area of Whiskey Sky. Wouldn't eat at thier buffet to save my life, but other than that its ok.

Thanks for the great trip report!!!

    Oh Vegas!! How I thee!!!
And that Bellagio garden's one of my FAVORITE things... that train setup looks awesome! So sorry to have missed it!!!

I have never stayed at Mandalay Bay (just a THEhotel at Mandalay Bay - FABULOUS!!) but I love MB... it smells like suntan lotion!! It's just so pretty. Last time we ate at The Border Grill - we sat on the patio, with a view of the river and relaxed... it didn't even look like we were in Vegas. Fabulous! Oh, and their chanmage buffet is great as well!

    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Tassie: little tip for ya. Look into the Coast Casinos (South Coast, Suncoast, Orleans, etc.) Either some or all of them have a kid babysitting area (I know for a fact that the Suncoast does, but it's all the way up above Summerlin) I think they call it Kids Tyme or Child Tyme or some junk. Anyway, if the Orleans has it, you can tour around town with the kiddos, see the sights and shows, and then when Mommy wants to gamble, drop the kids off at the play place for a few hours. I'm not sure what the cost is. Like I say, call the Coast Casinos and ask about it.

The Palms also offers a Supervised Kids Play area, back a few years ago, it was $6.00 per hour. With a 3 hour max. We loved having a few hours to ourselves when Grandpa wasn't available to watch the Wolfette.
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,
it's what they are like in their HEART!
