I DID IT!!!! (Avon Walk for Breast Cancer)

By now most of you know that I was walking in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer over the weekend.

First off, I'd like to thank MiceChat...I had support from many members here as I tried to reach my fundraising requirements...

a Very Big THANK YOU, I couldn't have done it without you!!!

So my weekend update for those of you interested.

We started out on Friday, my friend and I, with our usual arangement...Breakfast (gotta start the day off right huh? )

we made it into the city a bit later than expected, but we got there and decorated her 'Sweep Van'...Sweep is one of the Crews for the walk, there are about 6 vans that drive the entire length of the walk keeping a watchful eye on the walkers, picking up any walker that needs help, and taking them to the next rest stop where they can recieve medical treatment, and if needed, be brought back to the wellness Village (base camp for the night), Sweep also offers an amazing amount of encouragement though the cheers, honks and well wishes the whole time.

Then we went on to Event Eve, where we get our tent assignments, let them know were there, etc....

had a bit of free time while our team mates who were Crew went to meetings, the rest of us took some much needed private time (I went shopping).

Then we went out to dinner

and attempted to sleep...yeah right, not much sleep was had, the anticipation was beyond overwhelming. (that and knowing that you have to get up at 3:30 am made it hard.)

We got a good start though, my teammates and I were amoung the first to get out on the rout from opening ceremonies...

2300 walkers and this year the San Francisco walk Raised $5.4 Million

We got a good pace going...and discovered to everyones amazement that San Francisco was HOT at 7:30 in the morning (who'd of guessed) we were ditching layers like crazy....it was HOT!

if you know the area at all...We walked from Speedway Meadows (in GG park), through the Richmond district, to the persidio, across the GG Bridge (BTW I conqured my fear of crossing it), on the marin side we went under the bridge to Fort Baker, into Sausalito, on to and looping around Mill Valley, back to Sausalito (holy Smokes there are HILLS THERE, LOTS OF HILLS!!!) passed Fort Baker again, back across teh GG bridge, and onto Chrissy Fields....

Tired yet? I am, that was 26.2 miles and I walked every step...

I did have one injury though, at around mile 6 I hurt my hip I took a mis-step and strained it (20 miles left) but I kept going...I just kept saying if my body will keep going forward I'll let it....(and before I get scolded, I was paying very close attention to what was happening with my body...no sense in having anything worse than aches and pains to prove something....) I also had a fantastic walking partner...she kept me distracted at the most challanging parts, singing show tunes it was great...

I did go get checked out by Medical before I left for the night...everything is fine, just a strain...

I'll be bouncing around Disneyland next weekend
and my (2 bad) knees which I know many of you know about are just fine...knee braces did there job...nothing more than being a little stiff firght now...

OK a little stiff is an understatement, if I didn't have to work today I'd still be in bed

I only did Saturday's portion of the walk, I had a wedding to go to yesterday...very nice by the way...but I'm really proud of what I did
    and I wanted to share.

I know this was LONG, so if you made it all the way...Thank you

TB... that's just great! You conquered 26.2 miles of San Francisco hills AND the Golden Gate Bridge, and did it all for charity.

    You freakin' ROCK!

Sounds like it was a wonderful day. Walking across the GG bridge is fun, glad you got past your fear so you could do it.

    CongraDulations!
Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.

I am so proud and so happy for you!
What a great cause and what a wonderful accomplishment for you!

I thought of you all day Saturday and was sending positive vibes for your bad knees. If you've just got minor aches and pains - you were in amazing shape.

I'll have a real big real hug for you next weekend!!

Good job! No way I'd walk or run that distance. Perhaps I'll see you at Disneyland. I plan to make the Sunday and Monday meets.

    Thanks everyone...

I really am very proud of this....
I overcame a lot of personal things to be able to do it

and I did it for some very special people in my life, some here, some have left this beautiful world for another better one...and I miss them dearly and walked for them.

and I tell you, I felt their hands guiding me...

(thanks Grandpa, and Connie I miss you.)
