    Cooking with Kids

Anyone have any recipes that I can use in my classroom to cook with the kids? All I have is a microwave. I plan on bringing in various utensils, mixers, etc. as I need them. Any ideas??????

Macaroni and Cheese in the Micro is easy. Noodles + Bowl + Water = Noodles
    And add some cheddar
Voila, or bake cookies...or teach them how to make a Salad, thats what we did in Preschool

You've got 5th graders, right? Let me think... You could do the book Stone Soup and ask all the kids to bring in an ingredient and then make soup in a crock pot. You could have them all bring in different fruit and make a fruit salad. I read about a teacher who did that to illustrate how everyone contributes something different yet together we all work together....or something like that.

I can't see you doing much actual cooking though. When would you have time? Maybe you could work it in at the end of each lit unit/theme. Let us know how it turns out!

    Cooking with kids..... well...

It depends on what herbs you're going to cook them with ! :P

    But seriously.....
I find kids like things they can assemble, like parfaits, sandwiches, caramel fudge slices, things they can layer.

    Re: Cooking with Kids

I have second graders - mostly boys! I'd like to do something that involves measuring and following exact directions. I have a LONG afternoon on Fridays and I like to do the "cooking" at least once a month. They have an early lunch and no break between 11:30 and 3:00 so we all need a snack! I'm thinking of no-cook desserts (cookies.... etc.)

I'd love the Halloween ideas! Thanks for your help all!

Thanks Kelly! I got to meet most of my kids yesterday. They are a bright and energetic bunch! I already know one boy is going to have to sit with an anvil in his lap to keep him in his seat!
