Ever have one of those days when you just know something weird is going to happen? Today was one of those days for me.
My co-worker was in the front office and I and one of my clients were in one of the back offices of our building. We all heard the sound of a huge truck pulling into the driveway of our building, then we felt a thump against the side of the building next to the other back office, then we heard a loud screeching metal noise followed by a very loud hissing noise. About 10 seconds later a guy driving a long U-Haul truck with a trailer connected to the back came into my sight outside of my office window. I went running outside to see what had happened and his trailer had punctured a whole in the PG &E box and gas was spraying directly into the fan and motor of the compressor of our sub-zero fridge which is in the kitchen of our building. I went running back into the building and told my co-worker and client "We need to get out of this building right now and call the fire department!" Two firetrucks and the captain's smaller truck were there within 4 minutes and it took them about 20 minutes to get everything contained. When they were done, the captain told me that of all the gas leaks they have ever had to contain , this was the worst one that would have been most apt to cause an explosion.
The worst thing about this experience was knowing that and the fact that my client kept saying "There was no need to call the fire department. Yopu're over-reacting" The funniest thing about this experience was my co -worker who blurted out "Man, firefighters are really cute" loud enough for them to hear us. And the saddest thing about this experience was that the man driving the truck that did the damage was soooooooo upset. He was visibly shaking and he could barely write down his information for us.
I was pretty calm through it all and hugged my co-worker and told her that if I was going to die in an explosion I couldn't think of a nicer person to die with. I haven't had a chance to tell my husband yet what happened , but whne I do I think I'm going to start crying. Needless to say, even though it's only 1:45 in the afternoon, I'm having a big ole cosmo!
