Awhile back we talked about Germany and their apprentice program. I didn't forget about it and we haven't touched it again in class but I thought I would post for you what the book said about it.
"Looking at their educational system, we have found a large-scale system of apprenticechsips with industry, in which almost all students who did not go to the university after high school entered programs of mixed on-site training and further schooling. Over 500,000 German companies offer apprenticeship training programs in anything from hairdressing to the manufacture of optical equipment. High school graduates enroll in the programs for periods of 3-1/2 years. They earn a modest salary and receive one or two days a week of formal schoolwork, with the other three or four days spent in the plant. In all, close to 70% of German high school graduates are enrolled in apprenticeships."
