    Bizarre/Disgusting/Cool

I cracked an egg into a bowl right now, and for some reason the white was all red and the yolk was huge with a small bulge.

Turns out it was a fertilized egg. The red was blood, and the bulge was the baby chick. Gross. The chicken must've been a secret slut.

I even saw the dead chicks teeny tiny partially developed head.

Has anyone every had this happen to them?

I'd so bitch, that would make me cry... poor chick never had a chance. Course, i would have been raised in a egg farm world, which isnt the nicest anyway.

We had neighbors in Hilmar who raised their own chickens. He was frying eggs one morning and ended up cracking an egg with a egg that was past the point that yours was. It put him off of eggs for the rest of his life. We learned to crack fresh eggs into a seperate bowl before adding them to recipes.

Shows you how we are so far removed from our food sources.

I grew up in Amish/Pennsylvania Dutch Country and a bloody egg was simply discarded...no fuss or announcement necessary.

Most chefs recommend breaking the egg into a separate bowl before adding to the pan, dish, etc.

We also never refrigerated eggs just as they still do in Europe. In the U.S. they scrub and clean them which removes the natural protective coating that makes eggs eggs!

This is the main reason I am a vegetarian. As with most of us, I had a moment where I could no longer disconnect the two things - a living creature and the blob of meat in front of me.

When you think about it, most eggs we eat are simply unfertilized versions of the ones you described. That is kind of gross when you really think about it.

Mind you, I still eat eggs and dairy, just not meat. I just rarely eat eggs. Yes, I'm a hypocrite.

This is actually considered a delicacy in some Asian cultures. My filipino neighbors used to eat it....I thought it was disgusting. It's called Balut.
