I read it before they made the movie. Its excellent.
I loved all those books! I was going to suggest Devil in the White City and In Cold Blood.

Devil in the White City was a quick read for me, but I know it dragged for many. I was fascinated by the story of the World's Fair. It was really interesting to me. We just don't see things on that scale anymore. The crime drama was secondary to me, but very good.

I just finished Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and I absolutely loved it. It's a little like The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, which I couldn't put down. It's also a little like 1000 Years of Solitude.

If you want something different that will truly make you think, try any of the following, from a few amazing japanese authors:

"Socrates in Love" by Kyoichi Katayama
    "Battle Royale" by Koushun Takami
"Ring" (and subsequently "Spiral" and "Loop") by Koji Suzuki

IMHO, these are 3 books that not only hold your attention, but will stay with you for the rest of your life.

I sooooooo second this! Although, I might put them in a different order My ttenage son cried during One More Day. They are all great. He is awesome, and fast becoming one of those people on my "I'd really like to meet and have a conversation with" list. Plus, they are all quick reads, so perfect for a holiday break.

"All About All About Eve" is a good book. I forget the author's name. It's all about the behind the scenes action of that film.

"Marley and Me" by John Grogan
"Happiness Sold Separately" & "Good Grief" both by Lolly Winston
"The Quality of Life Report" by Megham Daum

All reallllly good books that I enjoyed reading this summer! They're all pretty quick reads as well.. I had to find myself struggling to STOP reading the book so it'd last longer.. they're all such good stories!

I loved "Tales of the 4th Grade Nothing" by Judy Blume. When I was in 4th Grade, my teacher, Miss Stonestreet, read it to us chapter by chapter, ,day in and day out after lunch recess!

Miss Stonestreet - what a teacher!

Ahh the days of grade school when the teacher read to you and it was so magical. Now I read to kids when I volunteer at CHOC, I hope they get the same feeling!
