Want a PS3 without waiting in line?

I just got this e-mail notification from a website advertising Black Friday ads. Thought I'd share incase anyone wanted to participate in crashing Costco's server!!!!

For anyone who is looking to purchase a PlayStation 3, but doesn’t want to wait in line for the chance to purchase one, Costco.com will be selling them online beginning 8:00am PST on Friday, November 17th. Official quote is below


“This item will be available for purchase on costco.com on Friday, November 17, 2006 at approximately 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time. The item will be prominently displayed on the homepage of costco.com until it is sold out.

Due to an extremely limited supply, we can accept orders from current Costco members only on a first come, first served basis, with a limit of one unit per household. The Costco warehouses do not have units available at this time.”

I so don't understand why people will camp out for days to buy some stupid game box that they won't care about a few months from now. It's got defects and is a waste of money, IMO.

I always do that with all electronics. I've seen people waste big money on things that become obsolete in a year due to defects, etc.

Yeah it's better to wait until they have all the kinks out. They were already saying that the PS3 isn't playing all the games from PS2 as it's supposed to. Why spend $600+ for something you can't fully use? I dunno, I'm going to get the Wii next year and then maybe the PS3...We'll see.

I was thinking that the PS2 might undergo a price drop, however:
1. That probably won't be until it goes into wide release early next year
2. It may not be as much as I'm hoping
3. I'm not sure if I can wait that much longer

Costco had sold out.... I tried for an hour and didnt get to go one.

You should do some research. Even if you don't play videogames at all, you get an included Blu-Ray player. Stand alone Blu-Ray players cost over $800. So you'd actually be saving $200 on (one of) the replacement(s) of DVD.

The multimedia features alone are worth more than the price of the unit! If you have a Hi-Def setup, the PS3 is the only console that fully supports 1080p.

There are tons of reasons. To simplify it down to a "game box" is the equivalent of someone telling you that Disneyland is just for kids IMO.

And who only plays a console for a few months? I'm still playing NES games...

No defects I've read about, except for the inability two play some PS2 games correctly. However, this is the generation of downloadable firmware upgrades (i.e. patches that improve the internal software of the unit itself allowing the console to perform new features.)

And besides, if you're buying a PS3 on launch day, chances are you already have a PS2. Not being able to play PS2 games right out of the box is not going to be that big of a deal.

Well so far there have been reports that people were getting robbed while waiting for the chance to buy a ps3. Yes while waiting on line. Dont even have the product yet.. Just not worth it.. I can wait..

They were in line at a store, I can't remember which one. The news this morning was buzzing with PS3 horror stories. It seems most stores only had between 10 - 15 in stock and many people waiting in line outside. A store here in West Covina (I think) used the lottery method to hand them out. I felt bad for those that waited for days to be in the front of the line and then didn't get one due to the lottery.

Last night at Walmart in Corona there were people camping out and the police were standing by. This was about 11:00PM.
