Smile A New Family Member for the Newlyweds!

    Meet our newest family member:

He's a leopard gecko that we bought (read: rescued) from a woman on Craigs List that had him listed for sale with some of her furniture. Apparently a pet is just a piece of decor, and in this case, that held true, seeing in what condition he was once we got him home.

I was saddened and quite angry to see him like this. The poor little guy can barely hold his head up, let alone move much. We did get him to eat some though, and I'm picking up an "emergency" reptile food for him this evening that we will have to force into him. I really want to smack the previous owner.

Hopefully he'll make it - he is really cute, and the poor thing has obviously been through a lot.

He's taking up residence in our Enchanted Tiki Dining Room, so we want to name him after one of the tiki gods. So, any ideas?

I vote for Rongo... no one remembers Rongo. And he gets to fly a kite, how cool is that?!?!?

DP, you and FP are amazing people. Thank goodness you have the knowledge (and big hearts) to help this little creature!

I know he'll be happy in your home!

It's so pathetic. He's like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree of the reptile kingdom.

I'm buying him a proper hiding box and some other accessories tonight too. I think he'll be thrilled.

    How fun!!!

I remember when my daughter and I rescued a baby bird (no feathers yet even) that had fallen out of a tree and broke it's leg. We had to feed it with a syringe for a few weeks (through the night like a baby), and teach it to fly and everything. It was a rewarding experience for us AND the bird.

    I want a pet now.

He's cute! And so much better off with you two as parents.

I like Tangaroa as a name.

This creature is in the right hands now. Hope he gets back to a normal state soon.

How 'bout Flaming Teeth? That's a name fit for a gorgeous lizard.

If anyone can spirit that poor little critter back to health, you can, Disneyphile. Your love for nature and responsible actions are highly admirable...not to mention commendable.

I am so happy he has a healthy home now with you and Frodo Potter!!!!! He's actually very pretty and I am not a reptile fan (though your bearded dragons ARE cuties)

My votes for a name would be Rongo or...ah ahoot I can't remeber any others besides Tangaroa and Pele. Though secretly I am partial to Pele.

Re: A New Family Member for the Newlyweds!

    Aw, thanks, guys.

We completely overhauled his cage last night - new tile flooring, a hide box, and new plant. He's got pretty nice digs now.

But, he's not doing well. His digestive system might have already shut itself down, because he's passing undigested food. Ugh.

I tried the liquid food last night, and he did ok with licking it off his nose at first, but then got smart and started wiping his face on the cage floor instead. I tried forcing it in, but he kept spitting it out at that point. Tonight will involved a tiny catheter that I can put all the way to the back of his throat. I'm sure he's gonna be thrilled with that. It's hard because I'm afraid of breaking his frail little body, so it's difficult to get a firm hold on his head.

Did I mention how much I want to smack his previous owner?

Oh no!! How sad! At least he has a chance now that he's in good hands. You two are good people.

I hope it goes well with the feeding. It will hopefully get him eating and maybe on the road to health.
