Sadako's ongoing snowy adventures in North Dakota!

Hey there everyone... here I am, far far away from Disneyland... in a little town called Minot...

    IT'S SNOWING!!!

Yea, I know, I'm a spoiled California girl who's never seen snow before... but you need to understand, I've never seen snow before!

Anyway, I had an early morning and headed out via taxi to the Santa Ana airport around 9:15 am this morning. I flew from there to Bismark airport with a layover in Denver. Denver in itself was cold, but when I got off the plane in Bismark, my first thought was "Why am I smoking?" and then the realization that it was only my frozen breath I was observing hit me... then the cold hit me...

The drive into Minot was 2 hours and I kept looking at the temperature gauge hoping it would go under 0 degrees, but unfortunately it only maxed low at 1. It's supposed to be around 3 or 4 right now and boy was I not prepared. I need to wear 3 times the layers I did tonight before we go out tomorrow... I nearly died just walking to the restaurant a few feet right next door!

But anyway, here I am looking from my window, just amazed. It's fun to watch snow flying by you. The wind just drags it and it looks sooooo cool, but it stings soooooo much! I might need another coat...

The view from the window to my hotel room looks very white...

I need to run to the nearest heated area!!!

Is this the end... will I freeze?

Look at me! I don't think I can move!

More to come... pray I survive...

LOL. I'm glad that you finally get to see real snow, not that soapy Disneyland stuff. We have been getting quite a bit here in Bremerton. It's been lovely.

    I'm sure you'll survive, princess!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Re: Sadako's ongoing snowy adventures in North Dakota!

When I did a (very brief) stay in Moorhead, MN, there was a freshman on our floor from California. He reacted the same way you did. A flurry one Thursday afternoon sent him into a tizzie. He was taking pictures and wondering if school would be closed tomorrow.

We just shook our heads and finished up our homework.

North Dakota (I was akimbo to Fargo) can get very cold, yes, but you get used to it.

It's snowing right now here in Colorado. We have a late start to work.

Give me snow over earthquakes anyday, frankly!

Why are you in Minot, Sadako? It's not really elaborated on.

    Peace out and stay warm!

    Welcome to the Himalayas!

I live in WI, which gets pretty cold. Never been to ND, but hear it's even worse! Stay warm out there, Sadako.

Make sure you have some sort of snowball fight. You've never truly experienced snow until someone has thrown a snowball into your face and it slowly melts down your neck! Just a lovely experience you shouldn't miss! Oh, and make a snow angel too!

Awesome! There's nothing like seeing actual snow fall - I remember being a California born boy going to school in Oregon and in Illinois and it was incredible!

Congrats Sadako, glad you are getting to experience snow and the seasons, I grew up in So. Cal. and now live in Boise, I love having 4 real seasons. It's 18 outside right now, but c'est la vie, I love it!

Re: Sadako's ongoing snowy adventures in North Dakota!

So today has been even colder! It's crazy!

By the way, I'm here on a business trip and spent most of the day at the local PD. It's been tons of fun though even if I am freezing my butt off (I was told to ask for hazard pay ). The people out here are soooooo nice. But it's soooo cold.

This is what happens when you leave a soda can in a car when it's below zero

    Check the thermometer, it's negative!!!

Looking out from the local Denny's, watching the new day arrive.

    Snow, snow, everywhere!!!

    Icicles on a car!

Cars get covered with snow so easily!

I was told I need to make a snow angel before leaving... I already feel like a little girl when I'm running around in the snow. I love the feel of the snow under my boots, but I almost slipped after walking into a restaurant this afternoon.

    MORE TO COME! ^_^
