There are a few possibilities here.

If her only symptom indicating that something was wrong was a headache , she may have just taken an aspirin thinking that it would help. Most people don't go to the docotr if their only symtom is a headache.

Or maybe she was too embarassed to go to the doctor or call someone and tell them what she had done that had made her feel so ill.

Or she may have been too ill to take herself to the doctor or call someone for help.

I wonder if the release form they had the contestants sign actually explained the dangers of water intoxication and outlined all the signs to be aware of or if it was just some standard run of the mill release form.

Even if they did outline the signs to be aware of , just as a person often can't tell when he/she has become dehydrated to a dangerous point, maybe a person can't tell when he/she had became overhydrated to a dangerous point. Seems to me there should have been a medical person there to oversee the event and one should have been called in after several doctors had called to warn the dj's that it was a dangerous activity.

Waivers exist to keep the timid out of the courtroom...

A good attorney with half a brain can shred a waiver (in more ways than one). Contracts are made to be broken...

Believe me, in this case, you might as well use the waiver as toilet paper. It's not going to prevent the radio statio from writing a big check.

yeah I heard about that. Umm... excuse me but who would be stupid enough to do that??? The Wii is great and all, and Wii Sports is fun, but it's not worth DYING for. Some things aren't, somethings are. A Wii isn't.

I am sure this woman didn't think there was even a remote possibility that this would cause her to die. That wouldn't occur to most people. Hindsight is always 20/20.

For her to be behaving stupidly, she would have had to know that was possible and do it anyway. And I doubt she did.

Before this, I never would have thought you could die in a water drinking contest.

But anyone with any type of common sense knows that too much of anything is a bad thing and therefore bad for you, even if it's water, cooking oil, cheese, fish, etc.

My common sense tells me I could die if I entered a cooking oil contest, but not a water drinking contest.

I know this sounds horrible, but if you're dumb enough to enter a contest like that maybe you should be removed from earth. I mean really, what kind of mother of three puts herself in that kind position? Everyone knows it isn't healthy to hold it in.
