    True-Life African Adventure

My mother just got back from South Africa and I wanted to share a few of her pictures with you all.

    Places

    Victoria falls

This last pic is from a Helicopter. It was my Mom's first time in a Helicopter.

The red sands of Sossusvlei. My mother climbed to the top of this dune.

    A shanty town

    Plants

    Royal Poinciana

    Animals

    Giraffes

    Zebra

    Water Buffalo

    Gemsbok

Impala (the little tan one) and Male Sable Antelope (tall, dark, and handsome)

Hippos. My mother says they are everywhere.

Dear Lord! He is wiggling his ears and blowing bubbles. Run for your life!
(yeah like you were going to get out of this thread without a Jungle Cruise reference).

Boa (not the feather kind). I'm surprised my mom took this picture, she hates snakes.

    Crocs Rule!

    a monitor lizard

    Ostrich

Here's another picture I'm surprised my mom took, a dung Beetle.

    Mongooses (or is it Mongeese)

African Penguins. Its a little know fact that African Penguins weigh 500lbs and can jump up to 20 feet.

    A Baboon and its child.

Vervet Monkies. They would hang out on the hotel decks.

    Some Lionesses.

I think your Mongoose animals might be Meerkats actually. I have been watching that series on Animal Planet.

    Elephants

And finally my Mom and her new best friend.

And before you ask, this was not a wild elephant. This one was used to take people on rides through the Savannah. I'll ask her tomorrow what his name was.

    --edit--

    His name was Danny.

Nope, definitely not meerkats. They are smaller than these animals and have lighter coats.

    I'll double check.

Thanks for the link. They almost have the same coat and appearance.

No problem. I found out it is Mongooses not Mongeese.

I imagine they might be related (meaning Meerkats and Mongooses).

    hmmm....

    DING!

    They are.

Interesting. Did she go to the Serengeti as well? Was that part of this trip?

Not this trip. She stayed in the South. She is planning that next.

Great photos, thanks to you and your mother for sharing them.

I especially like the camoflauged giraffe, the red sands photo, and the stealth mode monitor lizard shot, and it's so cool your mother got to sit upon the elephant for that shot too.

Wow. Tremendous photos. I love seeing other people's travel photos and video. These were well above-average, too. I need to add that to my list of places to see before I die.

I have an album full of View-Master reels that somebody took in Uganda in 1960. Maybe I'll go through them sometime and scan some of the best.
