    Angry Condo Wars

My mom and dad live in separate houses, most of you know I spend a good amount of time in Anaheim and Tustin. Well anyway, my mom has a condo and on both sides are the most annoying neighbors. I could probably go on for days about things that have happened.

But the latest problem is kind of a funny one.

The neighbor to the right knocked on our door 10:30 pm last night and complains that there's a leak in our garage, so we're going okay... He asked us to check our garage to see if we had a leak. Nope, no leak in our garage. So he goes back to his house and we hear nothing more. Then at 9:30 this morning he begins to ring our doorbell. My mom wasn't home because she'd gone to work, I was trying to sleep in as today is my only day off this week. You'd think he would have left after ringing the door bell twice right? No. He rang it 10 times over a period of 5 minutes and would not leave. So I go downstairs and answer it. In an angry tone he tells me that he thinks the leak in his garage is coming from our shower/toliet. I told him I seriously doubt it as I figure our plumbing would have been affected and the leak would have been in OUR garage. So he's angry and is telling me I need to pay for a plumber to check out HIS leak. I told him it was not my problem, I figure why do I need to pay to fix something that's his problem? I figured by now this was the end of it, but alas.. no. He involves the community office and I received a call this afternoon that they'd be happy to handle our dispute. So now I'm just waiting for the neighbor to come back tonight or tomorrow and bug me that I owe him for the plumber he had come out to fix his problem. Which by the way, the community office told me had nothing to do with me and they were quite confused by the neighbor being so mad at me.

Am I wrong in laughing/being annoyed by this?

Quick question, aren't you younger? I mean, at 18 nobody should be bothering you, considering you're not the home owner. I would counter-file for harassment.

Yeah I'm almost 19 but I've had problems with both of my mom's neighbors before (actually the police have been called on the other neighbor numerous times because he likes to scream and yell at me for no reason). I told my mom if this neighbor with the leak problem comes ringing our doorbell again I will call the cops.

You really should. No well adjusted adult should be berating the child of the home owner. I'm just sayin'.

Yah, just take yourself out of the loop. I also recommend not answering the door. Since you know that you can't make the decisions, you may as well not be the middle man, and let your Mom deal with it.

Well I half own the house too, my name is on it and anyway I'm old enough to know what's going on so I consider it my deal as much as it's hers.

And not answering the door doesn't work because as I said, he stands there and continues to ring it over and over.

I would let that *** monkey sit there and ring it till his finger falls off. You may half own it, and you may be old enough to know what's going on, but that doesn't make you financially responsible, and it doesn't make him more of a man for harassing the child of the house.

Your name may be on the deed, but that doesn't mean you have the right for decision concerning the home. My name was on the deed to my Mom's home since I was 8. Just have your Mom take care of the problem and no matter how many times he rings the doorbell, just don't answer.
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,
it's what they are like in their HEART!

Uhm, okay, I guess my confusion is that here you say it is your Mom's condo, so that is why I suggested you bow out.

Sounds to me like he needs to get some screws tightened after the plumbing problem is fixed…

Update: Mom was sitting on the balcony tonight talking on the phone like she normally does and the neighbor began harassing her that he needs a plumber to check his house and ours for the leak. I was kinda mad I didn't know about it at the time because I would have called the cops on the guy. This is the 4th time he's harassed us that we're causing his leak. Can't the guy get it through his head that this isn't our problem? Yeesh.

Well I'm not really the type of kid who has to report to their parent on everything. We both know the situation and since she works long hours I've been the one around the house more often lately so I've been dealing with the neighbor.

What a goober!! I would let him know one time, that it is not your problem, and you are done with him. If he rings the door bell again, just ignore it, he will eventually get the picture...

You might want to invest on some earplugs. If you don't want to, the nice orange ones Disney supplies work well too.
