    fave live concert??

On the heels of DD's post about fave 80s bands...

What is the BEST concert you've ever been to?

for me..its definantly from 1992. Peter Gabriel was having a "warm up" show in preparation for his concert tour starting a week or so later. So he had this practice show at the Ventura Theater in Ventura, Ca. They only sold 300 tickets to the public, and the theater held about 1000 usually. We were lucky enough to get tickets and it was an amazing show, partially becuase Peter Gabriel was so fantastic and also becuase there wasn't the usual "being shoved against the stage" that you usually get when you're in the front row of a show.

My follow up show would have to be the Violent Femmes at Ceasers South Lake Tahoe 2 years ago. Yet another small sized show, which i've come to enjoy WAY more than big arena shows. This concert is closely followed by Dramarama...at ANY of their shows

    So......what say you fellow MC'rs?
Will there be screams when the sun sets,

B-52's - Sun Theatre (now the Grove) in Anaheim - May 2001

Amy Grant - The Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim - Feb 1995
(opening act was her THEN husband Gary Chapman and guest performer was Vince Gill - hindsight, that was a pretty interesting 'sight'.

Amy Grant - Stage One @ Candlewalk, Corona - Aug 2005

    Warrant/LA Guns/Ratt - House of Blues, West Hollywood - July 2001
This isn't our typical style of music, but it was my brothers then girlfriends (now wife) birthday - so a group of us went down and had dinner at The Porch and watched the show. Wild show - but it was fun. I'll never forget it.

Saw Peter Gabriel at Oakland Coliseum in 1986, we were literally right behind him with his keyboard instrument. Even if you aren't a fan you will be after seeing his show! It was powerful. I remember quite a few highlights from it. I loved the African music band that was the warm up band before he came on.
U2 'on the Green" amazing show in 1986
And of course Depeche Mode in Pasedena.

    1. Depeche Mode, Concert for the Masses, 1988 - great opening act, weather drama with lightning and all, great seats, a killer Rose-Bowl-engulfing food fight, D'Mode's usually great showmanship and an awesome rendition of Everything Counts with 70,001 lead singers.

    2. The Smiths, The Queen Is Dead Tour, 1986 - the first and last time I saw the Smiths live, and I got onstage during the encore.

    3. The Young Dubliners, Red, 2001 - They were opening for Echo & the Bunnymen at House of Blues in Vegas. We were there to see the main act and these guys came out and rocked our socks off and made us instant fans.

Those are my "objective" choices. Subjectively, it's hard for me not to have loved the last Depeche Mode show at the Pond in Anaheim (November 2005), which I had front row seats for, and got rewarded by having Dave drop the microphone right in front of my face to sing "in the policy of truth," during the audience sing-a-long portion of the refrain to Policy of Truth.

System Of A Down Mezmerize 2005 tour
Three-time MVP Larry Bird, noting that Bryant has been the NBA's premier player for years, told Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick before this week's announcement, "When someone told me the other day that Kobe hadn't won an MVP trophy, it sort of made me feel like I wanted to throw mine away."

I should have included U2, but their concerts never stood out for me. Each was as outstanding as the last or next one.

I'd have to say Monsters of Rock at the LA coliseum. I think it was 88?

    Van Halen
    Scorpions
    Metallica
    Dokken
    Kingdom Come

Andrew Bird Oct 2005. It was just him but he sampled himself and played to what he had just played etc so in the end it was like a big orchestra created by just one guy, all live
